GRAND RAPIDS, MI, May 06, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nora Faber Overvoorde has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Inspired to open her eponymous gallery after suffering from postpartum depression in 2010, Mrs. Faber Overvoorde gathered the many paintings she had created while caring for her two children and began displaying her works both in-person and online. In addition to managing her own works, recently she also began overseeing more than 6,000 pieces of artwork crafted by her late father-in-law, Chris Stoffel Overvoorde, who gained renown as an artist in Grand Rapids for many years.
Specializing in layered mixed media painting on clay board, Mrs. Faber Overvoorde uses a multi-layer technique to create depth. While teaching 6th grade art at Northpointe Christian, she invited artist Julie Quinn into her class. She was immediately enamored with her style of painting on clay board with acrylics and oils and resolved to apply the method to her own work adding ink, liquid watercolors, salt and sand as a foundation, followed by a unique revelatory rubbing technique with oil paints. As a form of artistic therapy, Mrs. Faber Overvoorde strives to place herself somewhere between the subconscious and the conscious mind while painting so that she can better express her life experiences, her thoughts and her faith on canvas. She tries to remain anti-intellectual in order to paint from her heart and gut often responding to people she is praying for and/or current cultural events.
A teacher of over two decades, Mrs. Faber Overvoorde spent many years at the West Michigan Academy of Arts and Academics of Spring Lake and North Pointe Christian in Grand Rapids. Presently, she teaches art at South Elementary for Grandville Public Schools.
Having come of age in Grand Rapids, Mrs. Faber Overvoorde studied locally at Calvin University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in art education and psychology in 1998. To better support her career, she is a professional member of Grand Valley Artists. Founded in 1957, it is the oldest art group in the state of Michigan and one of the oldest art groups throughout the Midwest.
Honoring her talent, Mrs. Faber Overvoorde was a three-time recipient of Art Battle for Creston, a live painting contest. She was also recognized with a Best of Calvin Alumni in ArtPrize for 2015 for her painting, "Heavenly Choir." The painting has since been donated to Madison Church at the Square, where Mrs. Faber Overvoorde currently worships.
She will have an exhibit of her work at Forest Hills Fine Arts Center in Grand Rapids, MI, from May 16-June 15, 2023.
