Driven to become a nurse from a young age, Dr. Hendricks gained valuable expertise in the field of nursing. After many years, she decided to parlay her knowledge to others within the realm of education, serving as the Charles W. Barclay endowed professor at the Auburn University School of Nursing. Over the years, Dr. Hendricks has also gained valuable experience in the field of education as the graduate chairperson of the Nursing programs at Southern University-Baton Rouge, LA, and the dean at Concordia College Alabama, the dean of the School of Nursing at Hampton University, dean of the School of Nursing and Allied Health at Tuskegee University and the chief executive officer and founder for C&D Enterprises Inc. Foundation.
An expert in her field, Dr. Hendricks earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in community health nursing from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, a graduate certificate in gerontology from the University of Alabama and a Doctor of Philosophy in clinical nursing research from Boston College. In order to remain aware of ongoing developments in the field, she is also affiliated with Chi Eta Phi sorority, Inc., the Alabama Board of Funeral Services, the National Council of Negro Women and the Links Incorporated. Alongside her primary responsibilities, Dr. Hendricks was active as the founding director of Zetas Helping Other People Excel (Z-HOPE™) through the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
In light of her outstanding body of work, Dr. Hendricks has been honored many times, having been presented with the Dr. Lillian Holland Harvey Award from the Alabama State Nurses Association, the Mary E. Carnegie Award for Exemplary Service to Nursing Education from the Southern Region Education Board and the Patricia E. Thompson Leadership in Service Award from Sigma Theta Tau International-Nu-At-Large chapter at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Additionally, she was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing in 2009, inducted into the Alabama Nursing Hall of Fame in 2019 and was selected as the Emancipation Proclamation Speaker in 2022. Although her career has been filled with highlights, she is incredibly proud of establishing the School of Nursing at Concordia College Alabama in Selma, Alabama. Within the coming years, Dr. Hendricks aims to mentor others and share her knowledge with the next generation.
