During his formative years, Mr. Amaral's love for education was inspired by his parents, as his father was a high school principal and his mother flourished as a physical education teacher for more than 30 years. He initially earned a Bachelor of Arts in music from Eastern Nazarene College before obtaining a master's degree in music education from Gordon College. He subsequently gained teaching experience at various camps and after-school programs in Greater Boston, Massachusetts before beginning his career as a substitute teacher.
Mr. Amaral accepted a teaching position at Willis E. Thorpe Elementary School in 2010, where he had advanced to the post of an assistant to the principal in 2021. At his school, Mr. Amaral worked with the leadership team to establish the Social Emotional Learning Committee to support overall social and emotional health and well-being for students and staff. His focus has been facilitating the creation and implementation of a multi-tiered system of support for behavior and social emotional learning.
For his efforts over the years, he previously received a scholarship at Eastern Nazarene College as well as a Citizenship Citation from the Plymouth County Commissioners Board. In his career, Mr. Amaral has developed a teaching style that is innovative, creative, strategic and compassionate with a solution-driven work ethic that goes above and beyond.
In addition, Mr. Amaral has been grateful for the contributions and support of the people he has worked with as well as his partner, who have all helped him thrive professionally. Over the years, Mr. Amaral has attributed his professional success to his support network paired with his own passion and drive. He has always been motivated to aid others and help them thrive on their own journeys.
As a driven professional, Mr. Amaral is motivated by the legacy of his parents, specifically his father. He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in educational leadership at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Mr. Amaral plans to focus on social emotional learning with a concentration on equity enhancement for queer students and staff in the immediate future.
In the coming years, Mr. Amaral plans to publish his research and venture into consulting services for other leaders and organizations, focusing on climate & culture and systems alignment. Furthermore, he enjoys seeing the community of learners strive and achieve their goals. Mr. Amaral plans to continue inspiring the next generation into creating positive change in the world.
