Gerard L. Knieter, EdD, has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

Dr. Gerard L. Knieter has been a contributor for articles on the arts, education, psychology and philosophy for numerous professional journals and encyclopedias.

    STEVENSON RANCH, CA, May 11, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gerard L. Knieter, EdD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

An expert in aesthetic education, Dr. Knieter has dedicated his career to educating rising professionals in music and its connections to the arts. To prepare for his professional journey, he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1953 and a Master of Arts in 1954 from New York University. Dr. Knieter subsequently attained a Doctor of Education from Columbia University in 1961.

Dr. Knieter began his teaching career for various secondary schools in New York, where his future specialization as an interdisciplinarian in the arts emerges with two new courses, A Symposium in the Creative Arts which he team-taught with the chairman of the Art Department and Music and the Fine Arts in Historical Perspective teaching two-week guest lectures in each section of American History and World History.

Dr. Knieter next served as an assistant professor of music and education for San Jose State University. Following this period, he worked as the assistant to the dean and acting dean for the School of Music at the Duquesne University in Pittsburg.

Dr. Knieter continued his career as the head of the doctoral program at Temple University and was elected chairman of the Department of Music Education and Music Therapy. His work as an interdisciplinarian in the arts continued through workshops, institutes and lectures throughout the United States and Canada. He later became the dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts at The University of Akron and served in the same capacity at California State University, Northridge in 1986. After returning to the faculty, he taught courses in philosophy of music education, music research, aesthetics, music in world cultures, among others.

Dr. Knieter has contributed greatly to the program development of several institutions including establishing a Center for the Arts with an international focus, initiating procedures for a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts in visual arts, and developing a new program for enrollment management. In service to the university, he has assisted with leadership in numerous areas, as president of the Faculty Senate, as co-chairman with the president, on the Commission on the Future of the University, as chairman on the Promotions and Tenure Committee of the College of Music and on the Undergraduate Policies and Programs Committee for the College of Education. Dr. Knieter also obtained grants and funding for projects in music and the arts for the universities.

As part of his dedication to his field outside of his role of emeritus professor of music, Dr. Knieter has held membership in the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, American Association for Higher Education and the Society for Ethnomusicology. He also participates in and supports the National Association for Music Education.

Additionally, Dr. Knieter has been a contributor for articles on the arts, education, psychology and philosophy for numerous professional journals and encyclopedias. He is the author of "Tonal Harmony for Professional Musicians" (2021). He also co-edited "The Teaching Process and the Arts and Aesthetics" alongside Jane Stallings in 1979.
