Drawing on over a decade of expertise in the field of medicine, Dr. Bean specializes in anesthesiology and residency education. Prior to embarking on her professional journey, she pursued an education at the University of California San Diego, obtaining a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and cell biology in 2002. She continued her academic efforts at the University of Pennsylvania, earning a post-baccalaureate degree in 2005 and, subsequently, a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009. As a commitment to her field, Dr. Bean has been active with several industry-related organizations, including the American Osteopathic College of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Washington State Society of Anesthesiologists and the Society of Academic Associations of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine.
Dr. Bean began her career as a research laboratory manager at Fox Chase Cancer Center from 2003 to 2005. She subsequently completed her residency medical in anesthesiology at Riverside University Health System in 2014, and undertook a fellowship in advanced clinical anesthesia at Stanford University School of Medicine from 2014 until 2015. Since 2015, she has found much success as an anesthesiologist and a program director of the anesthesiology residency program at Virginia Mason Medical Center. In this capacity, Dr. Bean is responsible for clinical resident instruction, clinical supervision of surgical procedures in the operating rooms, medical direction of certified registered nurse anesthetists, mentorship of graduates, and recruitment of incoming medical students throughout the country, among other duties.
Well regarded for her contributions to the field, Dr. Bean has received multiple awards, including the Medical Student of the Year award in 2009, the Anesthesiology Faculty Teaching Award in 2017 and the Fellow Inductee award from the American Osteopathic College of Anesthesiologists in 2021. Long dedicated to civic advocacy, she and her husband support the Sunrise Beach School in Olympia, Washington, The Friendship Circle of Washington, and the Virginia Mason's Department of Anesthesiology Education Fund. She attributes much of her success to mentorship, seeing the glass half full, experiences, education and the close-knit community of which she is a part. Looking toward the future, Dr. Bean aspires to expand the scope of her career in medical education to a national level, and hopes to continue thriving at the Virginia Mason Medical Center by providing superlative patient care amongst an incredible team of compassionate providers.
