Well regarded as an expert in her field, Mrs. Vargas has distinguished herself as a radiation therapist for more than 28 years. To prepare for her profession, she earned an Associate of Science in radiation therapy from Labouré College in 1993. Decades later, in 2020, she attended Southern Hampshire University, from which she attained a Bachelor of Science. Well qualified in health care, Mrs. Vargas received certification as a phlebotomy technician from Coastal Career Academy in 2014.
Mrs. Vargas began her career as a radiation therapist with Lahey Clinics, where she worked for 3 years before concluding her educational efforts and transitioning to Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital in 1997. Furthermore, while pursuing her certification, she worked as a phlebotomist for Coastal Career Academy.
Since 2020, Mrs. Vargas has worked as a radiation therapist for UMass Memorial Health. In this capacity, she cares on behalf of patients living with cancer, and collaborates with doctors to distribute appropriate treatment plans to ensure patients receive the correct dosing and treatment timeline. Mrs. Vargas has dedicated her career to promoting empathy for everyone around her, especially for those who are sick.
As part of her dedication to her field, Mrs. Vargas is a member of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. A dedicated civil advocate as well as patient advocate, she serves as a member of the local Neighbor Brigade and volunteers her time as a religion education teacher for Immaculate Conception Church.
Ms. Vargas was inspired to join her profession after witnessing her own grandparents undergo radiation treatment. At the time, she did not fully understand what those treatments were for or why they were effective and decided to pursue her curiosity in that area, ultimately pursuing the discipline as her own career. Looking toward the future, Mrs. Vargas intends to step into a managerial role or transfer her skills to working in nursing homes in order to serve elderly patients.
