Richard "Rich" Marshall-Komst Honored for Service in Human Resources

As the director of human resources and finances for BH Aircraft Co., Inc., Richard Marshall-Komst has dedicated himself to helping others and achieving impressive results on behalf of his employers.

Mr. Marshall-Komst started off in the banking industry, but he decided to shift his focus to human resources after the early 2000s when, due to numerous banks being bailed out by the U.S. government, many banks left New York. This worrying set of circumstances led him to become an HR generalist. Drawing upon his passion for helping veterans, as well as his knowledge of the aviation industry and the military history of World War II, he decided to join BH Aircraft Co., Inc. In addition to his connection to the industry, the fact that BH is covered by the Defense Act of 1952 was a factor in Mr. Marshall-Komst's decision. According to the act, the entity of BH would remain intact regardless of any problems in the world, so it offered more security than the banking industry had shown.

Mr. Marshall-Komst prides himself on how he rose through the ranks and contributed greatly to transforming the human resource landscape at BH within four years. A year after onboarding as a generalist, he became involved with public events and veterans events until he became a kind of brand ambassador for the company about their dedication to World War II and the aviation industry, which is very popular in Long Island. The company upgraded his title to director of human resources because of his vast presence among the employees, many of whom were more accustomed to an antiquated view of human resources four years ago. On his own initiative, he made substantial changes to the employee manual and benefits, and partnered with the executive management team. After 18 months of serving in his new position, he was entrusted with a leadership role over the finance team. Since then, he has proven himself so successful with his responsibilities and initiative that the management gave him the title, Director of HR-Finance.

Mr. Marshall-Komst was influenced by two people throughout his career. His first mentor was Thomas Moran, who was the chief financial officer of CP Packaging, which was one of his first roles more than 20 years ago. His second mentor is Brian Patrick Kearns, his employer for the last four years. He is the chief financial officer of BH Aircraft Co., Inc.

When he was asked about his thoughts on aviation, Mr. Marshall-Komst replied, "I am very fascinated with the industry because of what it is: it is aerospace, its defenders of our nation. Manufacturing firms are important especially in aerospace. Here on Long Island there's a traditioned history in the aerospace industry since WWII and this company has been around since before WWII. It's a passion of the company and of the industry." Above all, he is proud to have been able to serve others for as long as he has.
