COLUMBIA, MD, May 17, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Tom Glenn has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Well regarded as an expert on the Vietnam War, Dr. Glenn has had a multifaceted career as an intelligence operative, a musician, a linguist in seven languages, a cryptologist, a government executive, a caregiver for the dying, a leadership coach, and a writer. Prior to embarking on his professional journey, he served honorably as a civilian employee of the National Security Agency (NSA) operating under cover as an enlisted man in military units he supported with signals intelligence in combat. Comfortable in Vietnamese, Chinese, and French, the three languages of Vietnam, Dr. Glenn spent more time supporting troops on the battlefield in Vietnam than he did in the U.S. between 1962 and the fall of Saigon in 1975, from which he escaped under fire.
Immediately upon graduation from the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Glenn enlisted in the army and was sent to the Army Language School for a full year's intensive training in Vietnamese. Assigned to NSA to serve out his enlistment, he enrolled as a part-time graduate student at Georgetown to study Chinese. When his enlistment ended, NSA hired him and immediately sent him to Vietnam. Years later, while working as a full-time NSA employee, he took a master's degree in government and a doctorate in public administration from the George Washington University. In the years that followed, Dr. Glenn toured the United States, lecturing on management and leadership. He also served as the dean of the management department at the National Cryptologic School. Meanwhile, he volunteered to care of AIDS patients at the height of the AIDS epidemic, then went on to serve as a hospice worker, caring for the dying.
Dr. Glenn presently serves as a reviewer for the Washington Independent Review of Books and the Internet Review of Books, specializing in books on war and Vietnam. A published author in his own right, he notably penned Friendly Casualties in 2012, No-Accounts: Dare Mighty Things in 2014 and The Trion Syndrome in 2015. Likewise, in 2017, he published Last of the Annamese, which is set during the fall of Saigon. That book, after being awarded prizes by Eric Hoffer and the Maryland Writers Association, has just been named the 2022 Gold Winner for Historical and Realistic Fiction by the Human Relations Indie Book Awards. Most recently, Dr. Glenn published Secretocracy and a collection of short stories, Coming to Terms: Short Stories, with Adelaide Books of New York in 2020.
Having come of age amid troubled circumstances, Dr. Glenn learned to take care of himself when he was six years old. As a result, he became an independent and self-reliant person, which he credits as the main factor in his success. Looking toward the future, Dr. Glenn intends to continue writing and reviewing books, and expanding the scope of his readership.
