A widely regarded secondary school educator, Dr. Wetherell served as a teacher with the New York City Department of Education for more than three decades prior to his retirement in 2004. In recognition of his dedication to the field of education, he was selected to receive an Achievement Award from the American Federation of Teachers and Bunzel Award from the United Federation of Teachers. Since the inception of his career, Dr. Wetherell has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including the 61st through 70th editions of Who's Who in America and 25th through 33rd editions of Who's Who in the World.
Prior to pursuing a career in education, Dr. Wetherell received a Bachelor of Arts from St. John's University in 1965. He went on to complete a Master of Arts through Fordham University in 1967, and PhD through St. John's University in 1979. In an effort to remain alert of recent developments in historical research, Dr. Wetherell maintains involvement with the Queens Historical Society and American Historical Association. He is also involved with the New York State Archives Partnership Trust, Phi Delta Kappa, Phi Alpha Theta, Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences of America, and Józef Pilsudski Institute of America.
Outside of his career as an educator, Dr. Wetherell maintains involvement with the St. Kevin Roman Catholic Church, where he has been recognized as a member of the Pastoral Council and School Board. He is also an active member of the Saint John Paul II National Shrine. Through his involvement with the Roman Catholic Church, Dr. Wetherell was named a Knight of the Grand Cross with the Order of the Holy Sepulchre.
