PRINCETON, NJ, May 19, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Steve Mariotti is a distinguished biographee of Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are chosen from among a pool of the most prominent professionals and are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A respected expert in entrepreneurship, Mr. Mariotti began his career as a successful businessman. Born in Ann Arbor, MI, in 1953, he received a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan in 1975. From there, Mr. Mariotti joined the Ford Motor Company, where he was quickly recognized for his potential as a financial analyst. As the youngest senior analyst in Ford's history, he was responsible for drafting Ford's initial policy against apartheid in 1978 with civil rights leader and social activist Leon Sullivan. Mr. Mariotti founded Mason Import/Export in 1979 and served as the president of the business for three years.
Acknowledging a deeper calling, Mr. Mariotti became driven to pursue a career that would allow him to pass his wealth of knowledge and experience onto others. While working as a special education teacher for some of New York's most impoverished schools, he motivated students by tying their lessons to the basics of running a small business. Many of his students saw entrepreneurship as a way to escape the crushing poverty that came with being low-income youth. As a result, they were eager to learn the math, reading and writing involved in starting and maintaining their own business.
In 1987, Mr. Mariotti attempted to expand the scope of his reach by founding the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, or NFTE. As the founder and former CEO of the global nonprofit network, he authored numerous textbooks, workbooks and curricula after realizing that no textbooks existed to teach young people entrepreneurship. His publications would eventually be used within 22 states and 12 countries, as well as by many readers who chose to absorb the lessons found within these works on their own time. Some of his most widely regarded books include "The Very, Very Rich, How They Got That Way, and How You Can, Too," "The Young Entrepreneur's Guide to Starting and Running a Business: Turn Your Ideas into Money" and "Entrepreneurship: Owning Your Future." His most recent authored work, "An Entrepreneur's Manifesto," was published by Templeton Press in 2016.
Since its inception, the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship has expanded to serve more than 700,000 youth and train more than 12,000 teachers on a worldwide basis. There are currently NFTE programs in the United States, South Africa, Ireland, Israel, Belgium, China, the Netherlands, Germany, India and the United Kingdom, among other locations. Mr. Mariotti recently stepped down from his role as the president of the organization, although he continues to be widely regarded as the founder.
Outside of his involvement with the NFTE, Mr. Mariotti has served as a featured speaker at the Aspen Ideas Festival, Harvard, Columbia, Yale, Brown, Berkeley and Babson College, among other locations. He is also credited as the co-founder of Inmates Teaching Entrepreneurship and Mentoring, a prison-based program that teaches inmates how to share the basics of business ownership with their children and with fellow incarcerated men. In this position, Mr. Mariotti draws upon former experience teaching entrepreneurship and math to inmates at Rikers Island, New York City's main jail complex and one of the largest jails in America.
In recent years, Mr. Mariotti founded Atlas Learning, Inc., a company that develops interactive video series and books for intelligent classrooms that explore the positive impact of the entrepreneurial mindset during times of crisis, such as conflict, natural disasters and war. He is also noted as the co-founder of Steve Mariotti Partners, a for-profit that consults with social enterprises and helps them develop their fundraising capabilities, and STEEM Advantage Foundation, a social enterprise dedicated to helping low-income senior citizens recreate themselves financially, and to raising awareness about the millions of Americans over 50 in financial difficulty.
In recognition of his numerous career contributions, Mr. Mariotti was most recently selected to receive the Golden Lamp Award from the Association of American Publishers, Bernard A. Goldhirsh Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and Entrepreneur of the Year Award from Ernst & Young Global Limited, among other accolades. In addition to being named a Lifetime Achiever, he has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World. In addition, Mr. Mariotti was awarded an honorary Ph.D. in business and entrepreneurship by Johnson & Wales University in 1990.
