A recognized expert in international taxation, Ms. Muyaa was named as the Chief of the Capacity Development Unit for the Financing for Sustainable Development Office of the United Nations in 2022. In her role, she is responsible for planning strategies and determining the capacity or capability development within tax administrations or with private practitioners for developing countries. Among other duties, Ms. Muyaa provides tax consultations and training to tax officials in countries in need of expertise.
Ms. Muyaa formerly worked for the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation between 2014 and 2022, where she rose from an associate to a senior associate, managing principal and project manager for CSAT. She also served as a freelance tax researcher in New York from 2013 to 2014, as a working student in Amsterdam for EY in 2013, and a revenue officer in Nairobi for the Kenya Revenue Authority for its transfer-pricing unit. It was during Ms. Muyaa's time in Nairobi that she was first introduced to tax law and administration.
Constantly motivated by her desire to improve local systems of taxation, Ms. Muyaa ultimately aims to secure a position that gives her the leverage to transform and advance the taxation system, particularly for countries that do not have the resources to do so. As an extension of her work, she has served as a visiting lecturer at the University of Cape Town in South Africa since 2017. Ms. Muyaa formerly worked in the same capacity at the University of Amsterdam.
Supporting various civic interests, Ms. Muyaa spent four years as a member of the Transfer Pricing Subcommittee for the United Nations between 2018 and 2022. She has continued to serve as a founding member of the Transfer Pricing Economists for Development (TPED), a nonprofit organization that is based in Paris, since 2018. The mission of the TPED is to encourage business economics knowledge sharing in transfer pricing, especially in emerging and developing countries.
To prepare for her career, Ms. Muyaa earned a bachelor's degree in law at the University of Nairobi School of Law in Kenya in 2006. She subsequently received a postgraduate diploma in law at the Kenya School of Law in 2007, followed by a Master of Laws in advanced studies in international tax law at Leiden University in the Netherlands in 2013. Additionally, Ms. Muyaa received an advanced diploma in accounting and business through the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
Attributing her success to her passion for international taxation, Ms. Muyaa was recognized as one of the Leading Women in Tax by the Kenya Revenue Authority in 2021 and 2022.
