After decades in medicine, academia and real estate, Dr. Law became invested in the hospitality industry when he founded the Canyon Madness Ranch in Roy, New Mexico. As owner and director for more than five years, he provides a unique 19th Century experience for overnight guests and includes an all-inclusive stay at his lodge, which sits on 140,000 acres of land stretching across the edge of the Canadian River Canyon. Guests can stay in one of eight luxury suites and have access to participate in a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, mountain biking, ATV riding, sport shooting and archery, among other activities. Dr. Law also purchased several luxury vacation villas in Cabo San Lucas, Baja, Mexico, and is presently building a loft hotel and restaurant near the marina in Cabo.
During an earlier stage of his career, Dr. Law became a prominent general, thoracic and vascular surgeon in Denver between 1978 and 2000. Among his many contributions as a physician, he had the opportunity to participate in St. Anthony Hospital's prestigious program, Flight for Life, which was America's founding air ambulance system for trauma and other emergency medical services. Additionally, Dr. Law taught as an associate clinical professor of medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine for three years. The first in his family to become a physician, his three younger brothers subsequently graduated from medical school in different areas of specialty.
While practicing medicine on a full-time basis, Dr. Law also became involved in real estate during the 1980s. He and his brothers all became affiliated with Global Pacific Properties in Denver, a commercial real estate investment, development and management firm that was founded by their father, Joseph Law, an immigrant from China. Presently, Dr. Law oversees the managerial aspects of the firm, while his nephew serves as the chief executive officer.
Aside from his professional contributions to hospitality and real estate, Dr. Law remains deeply invested in the performing arts. In 1996, he garnered recognition as a producer for a feature film project, Warriors of Virtue, through MGM, Warner Brothers and Columbia Artists. This $30 million project led to future work in China where he became involved in a children's film and television series. Dr. Law was subsequently recognized for directing and producing several action musicals and for investing in a musical theater in Vancouver called The Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts. During his 10 years overseeing the theater, he wrote, produced and directed more than 10 musical theater pieces, which were performed in Canada, the U.S. and China. In 2018, Dr. Law founded the Denver International Festival of Arts and Technology, an annual event that has since produced several noteworthy musical theater productions. Later this year, he will also begin sponsoring the Denny Awards International Electronic Music Competition, which will be held in Beijing for the first time and will be streamed live.
An alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Law achieved a Bachelor of Arts in 1969. Continuing his studies on campus, he achieved a Doctor of Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine in 1973. Dr. Law became board-certified in surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
In honor of his parents, Dr. Law and his three brothers, whom all graduated from the Perelman School of Medicine, donated an auditorium and its associated Law Family Pavilion to their alma mater, which is located on the top floor of Penn Medicine's Henry A. Jordan Medical Education Center. To commemorate his contributions to the arts and entertainment industry, Dr. Law was nominated for a Toronto Dora Award for Best Direction of a Musical in 2005. He also received seven nominations and three Dora Awards for three other musical productions.
