An expert in packaging technology, Mr. Nieder has been a professional in the packaging industry for more than 45 years. Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, he completed coursework in physics with a minor in mathematics at Duquesne University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in business management from La Salle University. Following these accomplishments, he began his career with Stoner Mudge in 1961 working on paint coating formulations for food and beverage packages. He continued his career working at the H. J. Heinz Company starting in 1966 in plant quality assurance, corporate packaging specification development and can manufacturing.
Following these achievements, Mr. Nieder transitioned to the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company until 1982 when he became the senior director of the packaging technology department for Anheuser-Busch. During his tenure, he led a group with worldwide responsibility for all packaging specifications and materials for the company, including cost reduction and new packaging development. He led the food industry in can manufacturing technology and was instrumental in the development of aluminum can lid technology for the beer industry, among other advancements in packaging. He worked in this role for 22 years until his retirement, and presently works as a senior consultant for food and beverage packaging companies.
Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Nieder has authored numerous articles in his field, writing for publications such as Packaging Digest, Beverage World, Food and Drug Packaging and Environmental Management in a Global Economy. One of his publications includes "Storeman Norman's War on Weight," which was published in Canmaker magazine. He has also made presentations promoting packaging at conventions and professional gatherings internationally. In recognition for his expertise, he was admitted to the Packaging & Processing Hall of Fame in 2002.
Outside of his main career path, Mr. Nieder served as a chairman for the Packaging Management Council, the members of which were the top packaging professionals at 35 Fortune 500 Companies. He is also a past president of the National Beverage Packaging Association and was a member of the Packaging Institute. Additionally, he served on the editorial board for Canmaker magazine, a worldwide publication in Great Britain. Known for his contributions as a civic-minded citizen, he served as the president and founder of the Homeowners Association in Dardenne Prairie, Missouri.
