METAIRIE, LA, May 25, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Heath B. Barker has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
For more than two decades, Mr. Barker has been affiliated with Christian Brothers School, an all-boys school in City Park New Orleans. In addition to teaching middle school students, he serves as the director of community ministry and mission, coordinates various spiritual activities, retreats and prayer groups for faculty members and students, and serves as the federal programs liaison. Additionally, Mr. Barker promotes the mission of the Catholic Lasallian charism on behalf of the school. He is the school's middle school band director.
Among Mr. Barker's many accomplishments at Christian Brothers School, he successfully developed several programs over the past 20 years that continue to be utilized and mirrored today on other school campuses. During his tenure, he established a youth prayer and service organization, as well as a Music for the Missions program, which currently serves as an endowment program to assist students and their families in need of medical and financial resources.
Outside of his primary obligations as a teacher, Mr. Barker was instrumental in developing the school's second location on Canal Street. Serving as an interim principal for one year, he was responsible for developing the school's curriculum, hiring approximately 95% of the school's staff and, more importantly, increasing student enrollment from 100 students to more than 550. Besides his contributions at Christian Brother School, Mr. Barker taught at The Good Shepherd Nativity Mission School Inc. in New Orleans from 2001 to 2002.
A leader in his community, Mr. Barker has served as a member of the Regional Mission Formation Board as a representative from the legacy New Orleans - Santa Fe District, and as a member of the First Mission and Ministry Council, Santa Fe New Orleans District. He has also offered free tutoring services to children throughout his area, especially to those that have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Barker is an alumnus of Archbishop Rummel High School in New Orleans. After graduating, he attended the University of New Orleans, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education, with a minor in biology, in 2001. Mr. Barker subsequently completed additional coursework at the Lasallian Leadership Institute, the Brother John Johnston Institute, the Buttimer Institute of Lasallian Studies and the Lasallian Social Justice Institute. Well qualified in his field, Mr. Barker received certification as a K-8 teacher.
In 2018, Mr. Barker was the recipient of a Distinguished Educator Award from Cabrini High School. He was also featured in a 2021 edition of De La Salle Today.
