SAN DIEGO, CA, May 26, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to honor Lindley A. Cates, PhD with inclusion in Who's Who in the World. An accomplished listee, Lindley A. Cates, PhD celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Having cultivated an interest in science since his formative years during the Great Depression, Dr. Cates gleaned inspiration from both his high school chemistry teacher and graduate school mentors in pursuing his professional journey in medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical medicine. To this end, he sought a formal education at the University of Minnesota, from which he obtained a Bachelor of Science in pharmaceutical studies in 1954. Following this accomplishment, he earned a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in medicinal chemistry from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1958 and 1961, respectively.
A registered pharmacist, Dr. Cates distinguished himself as a community pharmacist for over a decade. Likewise, he served as a medicinal chemistry professor at the University of Houston for nearly 40 years, having been promoted from an assistant professor to a full professor in the shortest time allowed. In 1985, he was appointed to the role of associate dean of the University of Houston. Moreover, for over 25 years, Dr. Cates worked as the chairman of the board of directors for the Great Southern Laboratory.
Bearing a great passion for his field, Dr. Cates has been involved in numerous relevant organizations, including as a member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the American Chemical Society and the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education, the latter for which he acted as vice president, secretary and chair of the medicinal chemistry section. Prior to embarking upon his career in chemistry, he served as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force, through which he advanced to the rank of captain.
As a testament to his expertise, Dr. Cates has earned much recognition for his work. In addition to having received numerous grants throughout his career from the Robert A. Welch Foundation, the National Cancer Institute and the National Institute of Health, he secured a fellowship from the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. Additionally, he is most proud to have obtained a doctorate while pursuing his academic path, having earned distinction in his family as the first to do so. In accounting for his success, Dr. Cates credits the mentorship of Dr. Tony Jones, his thesis director, who encouraged him and set a laudable example as both a scientist and human being.
