After an extensive career in training and development, operations management and manufacturing with organizations like Motorola Inc. and ST Microelectronics, Dr. Graham transitioned into another field to pursue other goals. After receiving a drug and alcohol certification, he was hired as a program director for Sober Living by the Sea in Newport Beach, California, in 2005. Over the next five years, he oversaw the recovery program, which involved both individual and group care, and founded the co-occurring disorders program in a residential treatment facility. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Graham completed his doctorate degree, became a licensed clinical psychologist, and started his own practice.
Following his true calling, Dr. Graham felt compelled by the desire to help others. As the clinical director of Behavioral Health Synergy Clinical Services in Costa Mesa, California, a women's residential treatment center, he provides an array of therapeutic services to those suffering from co-occurring disorders. A leading authority in this area of psychology, he specializes in substance abuse treatment, depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder. Dr. Graham has also since established several local sober living homes, treatment centers and counseling centers.
In addition to seeing patients, Dr. Graham consults with start-up treatment centers, assisting new business owners in how to structure their alcohol and drug abuse treatment centers to provide the highest level of care possible. Aside from treating patients and consulting, he teaches Introduction to Psychology, Human Development, Abnormal Psychology, and Problem Solving and Decision Making as an adjunct professor of psychology at the Community College of Aurora in the department of arts and communication. Dr. Graham also teaches courses at Arapahoe Community College.
Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Graham has enjoyed the opportunity to speak at state and national conferences on such topics as domestic violence, substance abuse, faith-based treatment, co-occurring bipolar disorder and substance abuse. He was also honored to serve as a keynote speaker at the International Conference on Dual Diagnosis in Munich, Germany, in 2017. As part of his professional commitments, Dr. Graham is a member of the California Association of Alcohol and Drug Counselors, the American Society of Training and Development, the American Psychological Association, and the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Counselors.
Dr. Graham earned a Bachelor of Science in education, curriculum and instruction at Texas A&M University in 1976, followed by a Master of Arts in education administration at the University of North Texas in 1978. He later returned to college, where he acquired a Doctor of Psychology in clinical psychology at the Chicago School of Psychology in Irvine in 2011. Dr. Graham also holds certification from the Equity in Instructional Leadership Academy, the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium, and the California Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors, and is certified in effective college instruction.
