Committed to serving his community throughout his career, Mr. Benton has been a dedicated pastor for more than 13 years. Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in secondary education from the University of Mississippi in 1991 and a Master of Science in chemistry education from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1996. After completing his undergraduate degree, he became a science teacher, teaching classes in AP chemistry, chemistry, biology, and physics for various school districts in Mississippi. In recognition for his dedication in taking alternative school students to the state science fair for four consecutive years, Mr. Benton was honored with an Excellence in Science Teaching award from the Mississippi State Legislature. In addition, Mr. Benton has received the Star Teacher award given to teacher who has made the greatest contribution to a STAR student's scholastic achievement.
In 2009, Mr. Benton became a senior pastor for Salem Baptist Church. He answered his call to ministry in 2002 and was ordained as a minister in 2004 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, MS. While continuing his teaching role part-time, the church began to grow, and he decided to focus exclusively on his pastoral work and retired from teaching in 2011. Mr. Benton and his wife, the late Tonyia Benton, started the International City of Light Ministries in 2014 in Mansfield, TX. They also began to oversee other churches in the state of Mississippi while in Texas. Outside of his main career path, Mr. Benton has authored two books, "The Fish are Biting, Where are the Fisherman?" and "Living In Prophetic Sayings."

He will help develop the pastors and leadership of those churches by sharing the wisdom, knowledge and expertise that he and his late wife cultivated throughout their careers as educators and ministers. He intends to provide guidance to the leaders of these churches to help improve their effectiveness for the successful accomplishment of their vision.
