An expert in strategic planning, Dr. Fenstemacher has dedicated his career to helping people and institutions achieve their professional and personal objectives. To prepare for his career, he earned a bachelor's degree from Oberlin College (1962) and a master's degree from Teachers College-Columbia University (1963). Following these accomplishments, Dr. Fenstemacher attained a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Michigan in 1971.
Dr. Fenstemacher began his career in admissions and financial aid at Oberlin College which included the initiation of a summer academic skills program for freshmen-unique in the early 1960s. His doctoral research focused on the academic and integration experiences among undergraduates at the University of Michigan. He moved on to work on changing the curricular offerings of the seven Minnesota State Colleges, and in 1975, came to Boston to plan enrollment and academic programs for the then-new campus of the University of Massachusetts at Boston.
Among his accomplishments, he considered his two most significant achievements to be the development of the University of Massachusetts at Boston into a major urban research institution, and the improvement of student services at Boston University. He worked for Coopers & Lybrand in management consulting and then was employed by Kaludis Consulting where he advised colleges along the East Coast. In this capacity, he worked primarily with presidents and boards of trustees to identify and reach the institution's objectives.

In recognition of his work, he was honored with an Outstanding Service Award by the Association for Institutional Research in 1985. As part of his dedication to his field, Dr. Fenstemacher was a member of the executive committee for the Association for Institutional Research, as well as the Society for College and University Planning.
Looking toward the future, Dr. Fenstemacher plans to continue excelling in his work as a consultant. He is passionate about helping educational or service organizations meet their objectives, which does much to improve society as a whole. A dedicated civic advocate, Dr. Fenstemacher also volunteers with Family Promise, an organization that provides housing and job training for temporarily homeless families and supports various nonprofit groups in Newton and Boston. He is also a choir member at his local church, the Unitarian Universalist Society of Wellesley Hills.
