Willem also has a strong academic background in law. After obtaining his B-Proc and LLM degrees in 1995 and 1997 from the University of Pretoria he finalized his Doctorate in Public Law through the University of North-West in 2005. In 2020 he was appointed as Extraordinary Research Fellow North-West University Research Unit: Law, Justice and Sustainability and is the author of numerous published peer reviewed legal articles. In addition to completing his articles and being admitted as an Attorney in South Africa and Solicitor in England and Wales Dr. van Aardt also completed the Strategy in Management and Banking Program through International Development Ireland.
