Having aspired to paint at a professional level since his childhood, Mr. Munson earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the Parsons School of Design, where he learned from such experts as Amil Antonucci, Sewell Sillman, Vito Cioffero and Paul Standard. Following this period, he completed master's studies in business, finance, production and human resources from the CBS School of Management. During the late-1960s, Mr. Munson began in the field as a book designer for the Museum of Modern Art and as a Junior Art Director for Odette Associates.
Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Munson has gained valuable expertise in executive positions with delGaudio + Munson, American Bank Note Company, Parsons School of Design, Avon Books, CBS Fawcett Books, Random House, the City University of New York system and Resource & Design. Likewise, he served as the Vice President of Sky Advertising, a Senior Account Executive of the Hartford Courant and an adjunct lecturer for Westfield State University. He is now a founding partner of EKD Gallery.
Over the course of more than 50 years, Mr. Munson exhibited his work in public collections at the Heckscher Museum, the Hopkins Art Center at Dartmouth and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Furthermore, he has featured his work in solo exhibitions at the Longmeadow Cultural Council, the Graham Gallery, Western New England College and Silver Circle Gallery, as well as a plethora of group exhibits in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and New York. In recent years, Mr. Munson authored "Edmund, An Artist's Journey," which chronicles his life as a man and an artist.
For his professional achievements, Mr. Munson has been honored many times, earning an Award of Merit from Type Directors Club, and Awards of Creativity from Print Magazine, Desi and Art Direction Magazine, 18 Awards of Merit through the Society of Illustrators and a Best Album Cover Grammy nomination, just to name a few. In a career that has been filled with highlights, he is most proud of his drawing, "Spoon Pond," which was specifically requested by the Museum of Modern Art. Additionally, he was awarded with solo shows at the Heckscher Museum and the Society of Illustrators. Looking toward the future, Mr. Munson continues to move forward with new organic graphic paintings as an artist.
