WHITEFISH, MT, May 31, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Deborah A. Goeb has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Goeb retired from her career in 2021 as a Senior Federal Wildlife Canine Officer for the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge Complex in Montana. Comprised of six National Wildlife Refuges, it has been recognized as the second largest national wildlife refuge in the lower 48 states and is managed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), U.S Department of the Interior (DOI). Affiliated with the refuge since 2002, Ms. Goeb also spent more than a decade as a Refuge Officer before being named to her most recent position in 2014.
Previously, Ms. Goeb served as the first full-time female officer to serve as a Refuge Officer in the lower 48 states, stationed at the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge between 2001 and 2002. Located in Illinois, the refuge is comprised of more than 40,000 acres. Ms. Goeb also served as a law enforcement officer for the State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources at the Richard Bong State Recreation Area and the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest from 1994 to 2000, and garnered recognition in various roles with the U.S. Park Service at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota in 1993 and the Peninsula State Park in Wisconsin between 1987 and 1992.
During her tenure in the field, Ms. Goeb had the opportunity to hold numerous leadership positions, including as the regional lead firearms instructor and armorer, through which she was responsible for all weapons systems and inspections and the coordination of all firearms instruction throughout the 8 State western region, she also served as the Region Six lead field training officer, training 30 new officers throughout her career. Among other noteworthy roles, Ms. Goeb served as a member of the National Wildlife Refuge System's training and policy committee, was a member of the National Firearms Committee, a wildland firefighter (engine boss/IC5), and wildland cause and determination investigator, was a Taser instructor and armorer, served as a member of the USFWS's National Dive Control Board and The Regional Dive Officer, was a founding member and commander of the USFWS Honor Guard, and lastly became the first canine team in her 8 State region serving the last seven years of her career across the nation with her canine partner, Lex, at her side. Furthermore, she was deployed numerous times throughout the nation in response to various natural disasters, acts of terrorism and other events.
A dedicated civic advocate, Ms. Goeb plans to remain active in community service over the next few years now that she has more free time. Maintaining a particular interest in victims' advocacy, she hopes to introduce courthouse facility dogs within her county to provide emotional support to victims or witnesses when providing testimony, and aims to continue her work with the Special Olympics within the law enforcement community in western Montana.
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, Ms. Goeb earned a bachelor's degree in wildlife management biology with a minor in environmental law in 1987. She subsequently completed training at the State of Wisconsin Police Recruit Academy in 1991 graduating first in her class, and again graduated first in her class from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in 2001.
Ms. Goeb was the recipient of a multitude of awards and recognitions during her career, including a Distinguished Service Award in 2021, a Valor Award in 2017 and an Exemplary Service Award in 2014 from the DOI. She was also named as the Refuge Officer of the Year by the National Wildlife Refuge System in 2011 and, among other accolades, received a Meritorious Achievement Commendation for Distinguished and Dedicated Service following the terrorist attacks on 9/11 in 2001.
