An expert in information technology and computer engineering, Mr. Sonnier has worked in the information and communications technology industries for more than 30 years. To prepare for his professional journey, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He also obtained a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 1982 and a Master of Business Administration (Executive Program) from the University of Denver in 1989. He began his career in engineering for AT&T Bell Laboratories in 1982 working with a range of technologies, ultimately became the director and general manager for several businesses in Lucent Technologies. He continued working in the technology sector as VP & General Manager for companies including Motorola, Philips Consumer Communications, CalAmp, Dataradio, and EarthLink. among several others. He has also served in leadership positions in multiple startups.
Mr. Sonnier has excelled as a member of multiple networking organizations including the Kettering Executive Network since 2005. He was a co-founder and director for Solid Smart LLC since 2003. He has been an advisory board member for Radish Systems LLC since 2012, a startup mentor and advisor for Venture Labs and the Atlanta Technology Development Center (ATDC) since 2014; both at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is serving as the chief operating officer and general manager for RaceIQ Engineering LLC since 2015. As an early testament to his dedicated work, he was selected as a Next Generation Leader by Motorola as well as for a Leadership Continuity Program (LCP) by AT&T. Mr. Sonnier was also admitted as a Corporate Governance Fellow with the National Association of Corporate Directors.
In addition to his main career, Mr. Sonnier has co-authored technology publications, including "Built-In Self-Test for Designers, A D&T Roundtable, IEEE Design & Test of Computers" and "Photonic Packing Using Laser/Receiver Arrays and Flexible Optical Circuits." A dedicated civil advocate, he has provided his expertise to the community as a mentor for the DeKalb County Public School System's robotics program and tournaments. Mr. Sonnier also volunteered as a referee and armorer for the local high school fencing team and is a leader for the Boy Scouts of America.
Looking to the future, Mr. Sonnier plans to continue to focus on his work with startup businesses helping them build solid foundations enabling success. He intends to continue encouraging his children to grow and become successful, leaving them his own legacy working in various aspects of technology and business.
