ALTA LOMA, CA, June 03, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Shura Alexis Moreno, MD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Drawing on over two decades of expertise in the field of medicine, Dr. Moreno specializes in internal medicine. Prior to embarking on his professional journey, he pursued his education at California State University-Fullerton, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in biology and chemistry. He continued his academic efforts at the University of California Irvine, earning a Doctor of Medicine degree in 2000.
Dr. Moreno has been licensed to practice medicine in the state of California and has been in the past a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine. He initially started his way towards a medical career by working as a registered respiratory therapist for a few years while obtaining his undergraduate education. He was born in El Salvador and was greatly influenced by his grandfather who as a physician took care of a medically under-provided population.
Dr. Moreno began his vocation as an internal medicine resident at Saint Mary Medical Center-Long Beach/Harbor UCLA from 2000 to 2003. Soon after, he founded Gabriel Medical Center dedicated specially in serving the under-served community of East Los Angeles. In his capacity, he is responsible for administering medical care to families with various illnesses which includes treatment plans, preventive care, minor interventions for some conditions and continuity of care. Dr. Moreno also practices at Monterrey Park Hospital where he is a well-respected hospitalist.
Dr. Moreno underwent a double lung transplant on April 2021 due to a severe COVID-19 lung infection, spending around 5 months in the ICU; but with his faith in God, to whom he attributes his perseverance, warrior like mentality, and courage, he has made a full recovery and is back serving the community he loves. Given his career related endeavors and his experience with COVID-19; he has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, Spanish newspapers and various television reports. He also collaborated on the article titled "COVID Lungs: Transplants Are Last Resort for Many California Patients" which details his personal plight and the lasting effects of COVID-19 from both his personal and professional perspectives.
Long dedicated to his professional and civic advocacy, Dr. Moreno has been steadfast in supporting the disadvantaged community he serves. Among his professional accomplishments, he is most proud of his commitment to his medical oath which was evident by attending to multiple families during the initial waves of the COVID-19 pandemic. His clinic remained operational during those difficult and trying days, thus saving the lives of many patients. He quotes that the situation during that time was "being in a war like condition, non-stop."
Looking towards the future, Dr. Moreno aspires to continue his contributions to the under-served by dedicating more time to educate his community about health prevention measures, health wellness, the importance of vaccinations and other topics dealing with the management of chronic diseases.
Dr. Moreno states that his miraculous recovery from COVID-19 is attributed to his deep belief: God first, then medical science! He plans to be an educator and advocate for organ donation, and is deeply grateful to his donor and family. In his free time, he enjoys playing Latin percussion and spending time with his family.
"I lay in Zion for a foundation of a tested/tried Stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; he that believeth shall not make haste" (Isaiah 28:16).
