After a long and distinguished career as an apparel executive, Mr. Gue retired as the president of Elan International Inc. in Atlanta. Well regarded in his field, he found success with the regional department store retail chain F&R Lazarus and Company at its headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. Gaining increasing responsibility, he was promoted to the role of the division merchandise manager, where he had the opportunity to travel across the country, from New York to Atlanta, touring showrooms. Mr. Gue also worked for several other leading fashion companies, including Sasson Jeans L.A. Inc. in Atlanta, where he had been appointed to the position of southeastern regional manager.
Mr. Gue resided in Columbus for more than 30 years before relocating to Atlanta to advance his career. Once settled in the southeast, he became active with several nonprofit and civic organizations. Most notably, he served as the president of The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Atlanta from 1993 to 2009. Mr. Gue presently serves as a member of the Country Club of Gwinnett in Atlanta. Additionally, he served on The Ohio State University Alumni Club Advisory Team in 1995, and The Ohio State University President's National Public Affairs Advisory Group in 1996.
An alumnus of The Ohio State University, Mr. Gue received a Bachelor of Science in business administration in 1963. Additionally, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps between 1958 and 1961.
In 2016, in honor of Mr. Gue's efforts to grow the Atlanta Alumni Club's scholarship fund, The Ohio State University Alumni Association named the fund The William P. Gue Scholarship Fund. For his contributions to his various civic endeavors, he was honored with a Best Buckeye Award in 2004 for his 16-year tenure as the president of The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Atlanta. Mr. Gue also received a Certificate of Recognition and the Ralph Davenport Mershon Award for Leadership and Service from The Ohio State University Alumni Association in 2009 and 2015, respectively.
