William A. Schultze Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Schultze with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Schultze celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Now retired, Dr. Schultze amassed more than 35 years of experience teaching political science courses in higher education. Named a professor emeritus at San Diego State University (SDSU) in 2000 after 32 years on campus, he also chaired the department from 1986 to 1989 and was the acting associate dean of the undergraduate division, honors and international programs, during the fall of 1990. In addition to his teaching and administrative responsibilities, Dr. Schultze was involved as a faculty representative for the Washington Semester Program, internship advisor, a member of the faculty senate, the director of special projects for the university's undergraduate division and a member of several professional committees.

Prior to being recruited by SDSU, Dr. Schultze taught at Rutgers University, Valparaiso University and Kansas State University between 1963 and 1968 and was a lecturer for the PACE program for the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1971. During the course of his career in education, he also had the opportunity to teach at several other universities, including the Université de Nice in France in 1976 as a Senior Fulbright-Hayes Scholar where he taught American Urban Civilization to French students and subsequently served as Professeur Associé from 1980 to 1981. Dr. Schultze was also a visiting professor at the University of Houston in 1982 and Sacramento State University in 1985. While pursuing his master's degree, he notably worked for the New Brunswick-Raritan Valley Chamber of Commerce as the director of governmental affairs between 1962 and 1963.

Dr. Schultze continues to devote much of his time to research and writing. Widely published, he authored several books, which have been frequently utilized in classrooms across the country, including "American Government and Politics: Selected Readings" in 1971, "Urban and Community Politics" in 1974, "Urban Politics: A Political Economy Approach" in 1985, "State and Local Politics" in 1988, and "American Government in Global Perspective" in 1997. Dr. Schultze also contributed numerous articles to scholarly journals, served as an associate editor and member of the editorial board for Western Political Quarterly, now known as Political Research Quarterly, and frequently presented before various professional groups and at conferences in his area of expertise, power structure studies and political economic theory.

During an earlier stage of his career, Dr. Schultze was influential in his community as a campaign treasurer for the Bob Filner for School Board in San Diego in 1978. Dr. Schultze also served as an adviser for the Yes on Prop "E" campaign in 1988, a plan that changed from at-large to district elections in San Diego.

Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Dr. Schultze received a Bachelor of Arts in political science, English and economics at Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1959. Dr. Schultze subsequently achieved a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in political science at Rutgers University in 1964 and 1967, respectively.

To remain aware of developments affecting his field, Dr. Schultze has been a member of the American Political Science Association and the Western Political Science Association. Dr. Schultze also served as the president of the Southern California Political Science Association from 1986 to 1989.

To commemorate his accomplishments, Dr. Schultze was a two-time recipient of the Meritorious Performance and Professional Promise Award at SDSU between 1987 and 1990. Dr. Schultze was also fortunate to have secured a foundation grant from SDSU and a grant from the Department of Health and Human Services Title 1 to study local leadership in selected Kansas communities while at Kansas State University in 1966-67.
