Ms. Ryan enjoyed an enduring 35-year tenure as a program director in the field of radiologic education. Recently retired from her position at the School of Radiology at Mercyhealth, a position she held from 2015 until 2020, she now dedicates her creative energy toward writing. While at Mercyhealth, she managed diverse responsibilities, including budgeting, scheduling, hiring new faculty members and maintaining curricular standards for accreditation of the x-ray program with The Joint Review Commission on Education in Radiologic Technology. Since 1993, she has served as an expert witness for medical malpractice cases involving radiography.
Substantial academic achievement has indeed shaped Ms. Ryan's work in the field, including a Master of Education Administration from the University of La Verne and a Bachelor of Health Sciences from the University of Redlands. Ms. Ryan has received formal academic training in online curriculum design and delivery.
She has maintained an active presence in industry-related associations and held executive positions within them, including as president of The Association of Collegiate Educators in Radiologic Technology and as co-chair of the Accreditation Committee for the college where she was employed in CA. Known for her contributions as a civic-minded citizen, she volunteers at Family Promise, delivers Meals on Wheels, volunteers at the local hospital and has served as president of her local Lions Club chapter.
Ms. Ryan is enthusiastic about collaborative scholarly research and writing. She has enjoyed being a guest speaker at conferences and is credited as the co-author, along with Andrea Dutton, of the book "Torres' Patient Care in Imaging Technology." The text, now in its ninth edition, is a standard for radiologic technology students in overcoming the differences between classroom learning and clinical practice. She is currently working as the sole author on the 10th edition of this text which closely follow the curriculum guidelines required for instruction. Ms. Ryan is also the author of the 2014 text Radiographic Pathology and its accompanying Workbook in its 2nd edition.
Ms. Ryan remains grateful for the support of her husband and her immediate family, as she is the proud mother of two and also has three grandsons. Looking toward the future, Ms. Ryan plans to take flying lessons once she has finished the 10th edition of her book.
