He also worked for Summit as a computer technician from 2013 until 2014 and as a dedicated aide from 2011 to 2012. He brings impressive academic credentials to the student body, including a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, with a minor in advertising, from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Additionally, from 2003 to 2005, he completed coursework in e-media at Quinnipiac University. Moreover, in 2017, Mr. Schachtel earned a Master of Science in Educational Technology from Ramapo College of New Jersey, and he is a Google Certified Educator Level 1 (GCEL1) and Level 2 (GCEL2).
Diverse professional experiences shape the pedagogical methods Mr. Schachtel deploys in the classroom. From 2008 to 2009, he was an event-planning intern with Susan G. Komen For the Cure, and he held another position in event planning at Presidential Holidays from 2006 through 2017. He was also the founder and owner of Penguin Designs from 2007 until 2020, a graphic and web design company. At Summit Schools, he also coaches high school sports, including men's soccer, women's ice hockey and softball. He was just recognized as the 2021-2022 Coach of the Year. Furthermore, Mr. Schachtel maintains a broad network of colleagues with an active membership in the New Jersey Educational Computing Cooperative and the International Society for Educational Technology (ISTE).
Mr. Schachtel understands the importance of educators sharing knowledge regarding technology, particularly on an international scale. He has remained active and visible in the field by delivering collaborative presentations at the International Society for Educational Technology (ISTE) in 2019 and the Future of Education Technology Conference (FETC) in 2017, 2020 and 2021.
Family, friends and coworkers serve as Mr. Schachtel's support system and motivation. Interfacing directly with the students — either in the classroom or in the sports arena — to advance their development provides the ideal environment for Mr. Schachtel to exercise his talents. Looking toward the future, he hopes to remain active in education as well as coaching. Additionally, Mr. Schachtel plans to continue his focus in coding and robotics and graphic design to expose more elementary-aged students to the field.
