Supported by years of expertise in the field of counseling, Ms. Washington excels today as a counselor-MAT for START Treatment & Recovery Centers. Since joining the company in 2018, she has provided methadone treatments and counseling to more than 50 patients. By helping them to identify their problems and psycho-social needs, her patients can transform their lives and make positive and lasting changes. Prior to obtaining her current position, she worked for the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health as a residential coordinator and assistant director, and for St. Mary's Skilled Nursing Facility as a mental health manager, assistant director and CASAC manager.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Washington cultivated her knowledge in the field as a preventative CASAC for Cardinal McCloskey Community Services and as a substance abuse counselor for Realization Center and Greenhope Services for Women, Inc. Additionally, she worked as a waiver service provider and special needs advocate for Abbott House, and as a therapeutic foster boarding home supervisor for Graham Windham. To remain aware of developments affecting her field, she aligns herself with the American Psychology Association and NAADAC, The Association for Addiction Professionals.
An expert in her field, Ms. Washington holds an Associate degree in Government and Public Administration and a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Administration and Planning from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, a Master's degree in Education and Human Resource Management from Fordham University and a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from LIU Hudson. To further her expertise in the field, Ms. Washington has been certified in mediation and dispute resolution from John Jay College, certified in HIV post and pretest counseling from the Office of Mental Health and certified in tobacco dependency and interventions from the Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services. She is also a Recovery Coach through the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, and certified in mindfulness, CBT, trauma informed care, and psychotropic medication management.
In a career filled with highlights, Ms. Washington is most proud of her education and of being able to handle her caseload. She was named to the Honor Society in 2015, Strathmore's Who's Who in 2016 and 2022, and the International Society of Female Professionals in 2022.
Looking toward the future, she intends to complete her licensure so that she can go into private practice. Ms. Washington also wants to complete a Doctor of Philosophy in social welfare at New York University in order to make a difference in impoverished communities.
