As a testament to his expertise, he has earned various accolades, including the Curtin-MacArthur Leadership Award, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, the National Magazine Award for Reporting Excellence, the George Polk Memorial Award for Outstanding Magazine Reporting and the Sumner Prize for PhD Thesis from Harvard University.
Among his many achievements, Dr. Terrill credits having learned the Chinese language as a native Australian as one of his proudest feats. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from the University of Melbourne and a Doctor of Philosophy in political science from Harvard University. Dr. Terrill attributes much of his success to his mentors in Melbourne and Harvard, including Henry Kissinger, and to China's prominence in world affairs.
