After more than 20 years in education and administration, Dr. Myers retired from teaching so that he could focus solely on his business, EduLink Inc., a premier educational software company in Pennsylvania. Founded with his business partner, Dr. Reed Hankinson, in 1998 while they were both pursuing their doctoral degrees, they were also colleagues at the Gateway School District in Pittsburgh at the time. Originally serving as a job search engine, EduLink Inc. hosted TeacherLink USA, a web-based software tool for teachers seeking employment throughout the state of Pennsylvania.
Today, EduLink Inc. offers various other industry-related software tools for educators and administrators, including the Pennsylvania Electronic Teacher Evaluation Portal (PAETEP), which serves as a teacher evaluation tool. The company also hosts Comply, an online tool for tracking state mandates, clearances and other compliance related items. In addition, Comply includes a module for tracking and managing the continuing education hours of teachers and administrators, submitting earned professional development hours directly to the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Moreover, Comply offers clients a robust Request feature, whereby districts can make electronic all their paper-based approval processes, including an approval chain, for items such as conference requests, field trip requests, credit approval, tuition reimbursement, flex hours, employee absence requests, etc.
As director of services, Dr. Myers is primarily responsible for product development and customer support. He also manages the maintenance of the company's software, as well as its development and addition of new features. Furthermore, Dr. Myers trains and works closely with his customer support representatives to ensure client satisfaction.
Since EduLink Inc.'s founding, the organization has become recognized throughout the state as a leading educational software company. Most notably, PAETEP serves as the number one teacher evaluation tool in all of Pennsylvania, utilized in over 500 educational entities across the state, including school districts, intermediate units, charter schools, and career technical centers. In school districts alone, PAETEP is used in over 80% of the state's 500 school districts.
Dr. Myers garnered experience in education as a teacher at Pine-Richland School District and subsequently at Gateway School District. During his tenure, he taught special education students, was a reading specialist, a data coordinator and a curriculum coordinator. Passionate about helping students suffering from emotional disabilities and behavioral issues, Dr. Myers found his career in the classroom to be extremely rewarding.
Devoting a substantial amount of time to philanthropic activities, Dr. Myers and his business partner are affiliated with Malayaka House through EduLink Inc., an orphanage in Uganda that supports abandoned and abused children. Inspired to become active with the organization by his dear friend and the nonprofit's founder, Robert Fleming, Dr. Myers is presently involved as a board member of the organization. In addition to their efforts with Malayaka House, they are involved with Mission To El Salvador, which focuses on addiction and homelessness, and Clear Thoughts Foundation, which is headquartered in Pittsburgh and funds treatment for those suffering from dementia. Most recently, Dr. Myers and Dr. Hankinson became a supporting sponsor and partner of Beverly's Birthdays, a Pittsburgh based organization that provides birthday cheer and critical baby care items for families in need or experiencing homelessness.
Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Dr. Myers received a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1992, a Master of Arts in special education from James Madison University in 1994 and a Doctor of Education in educational leadership from Duquesne University in 2000. Dr. Myers also received certification as a reading specialist, special education teacher, building principal and assistant superintendent.
