WAXAHACHIE, TX, June 22, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Patricia Jones Byrd has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Byrd has accumulated over 35 years of experience in education as a teacher, consultant and administrator in the Texas public school system. Presently, she is recognized for her contributions as an elementary school teacher at Plummer Elementary School, Cedar Hill Independent School District (ISD), in Cedar Hill, Texas.
Beginning her career as a self-contained teacher for the Dallas ISD, Ms. Byrd subsequently specialized in teaching courses on reading, language, arts and social studies. After seven years in this capacity, she became a national education consultant working with teachers from approximately 30 different states throughout the U.S., as well as principals, superintendents, and directors of federal programs. Following her years as a teacher and consultant, Ms. Byrd transitioned into administration when she was hired as the principal for Cedar Hill ISD's Bray Elementary School and West Intermediate School.
Notably, Ms. Byrd was the first African American principal to serve at the district's eldest school in the district, which was instrumental in allowing her to demonstrate that schools and districts can rise above the positive correlations between poverty and lower levels of achievement in disadvantaged children and children of color. Despite the perceived challenges, she is proud to have affected positive change in her school community. Among many other accomplishments during her tenure in education, Ms. Byrd received the Texas PTA Life Membership Award and initiated a new playground at Plummer Elementary School in Cedar Hill ISD.
Ms. Byrd is presently working on the outline for her second book, which will be titled "Leadership is a T.R.I.P," and will discuss the various tried and proven principles of effective leadership.
Over the years, Ms. Byrd has contributed her time by supporting local politicians with their campaigns, particularly at the school board level, as well as several other politicians running for mayor or council positions. To better serve her community, she is planning a run for a council member position in her city of residence.
Ms. Byrd earned a Bachelor of Science in sociology, with a specialization in probation and parole, and a minor in criminal justice. In light of her accomplishments in education, she has been named as the Principal of the Year and thrice named as the Teacher of the Year.
