After a long and successful career in academia, Professor Malek retired in 2009 from his role as a dean in the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) in Monterey, California. He has also spoken before some representatives from the National Security Agency and on behalf of the DLIFLC at the 2005 Arab Working Group Conference in Washington, D.C.

A widely recognized author, Professor Malek has been extensively published in many professional publications. He and his teams have authored 30 books for the DLIFLC in both English and Arabic and translated several books for famous American authors, including Max Lucado. Furthermore, Mr. Malek has translated and published hundreds of pages of sermons of Charles Spurgeon, an English Particular Baptist preacher, and served as a specialist interpreter for 19th Century English.

On behalf of his local community, Professor Malek has been serving as a volunteer chaplain at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula since 2010. He also established and has been pastoring the Arab Christian Center of the Assemblies of God in Pacific Grove, California, since 1978, which serves as the first Arabic speaking AG Church in the U.S. Professor Malek previously chaired the Arabic Department C, Middle East School II, for the DLIFLC between 1991 and 2003 and served on the school steering committee and participated in pioneering a new high school, Calvary Chapel High School, in Pacific Grove between 2000 and 2001, which is now known as Trinity High School in Monterey.

Professor Malek received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and geology at Assuit University in Egypt in 1965 and a master's degree in education at Golden State University in California in 1985.
