Lending his talents to theater performances as well, he played Gabriel in August Wilson's play "Fences" in a Brown-Forman Series production at the Actors Theatre of Louisville. For this performance, he was nominated for a Barrymore Award as an outstanding supporting actor in a play by the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia. Additionally, while working with the Atlantic Theater Company, Mr. Thomas performed in several other productions including "The Lights" and "Human Error," among many others.
Throughout his prolific career, Mr. Thomas has won numerous awards for his acting performances. To wit, he was honored with an Outer Critics Award and an Obie Award, the latter for his performance in the off-Broadway production of "Volunteer Man." During an earlier stage of his career, Mr. Thomas was nominated for an Audelco Award by the Audience Development Committee and was also nominated for a Young Artist Award with his colleagues for their outstanding young ensemble cast in a motion picture, "Mo' Better Blues," in 1991 by the Young Artist Foundation.
A diligent person by nature, Mr. Thomas prides himself on his ability to persist through adversity and setbacks. He does not allow himself to become discouraged when he is challenged, and works to improve his craft with each project.
