VINEYARD HAVEN, MA, June 24, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Fan Staunton Ogilvie has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Having been writing since her early youth, Ms. Ogilvie has distinguished herself as an author and artist for her own company. To prepare for her career, she earned a bachelor's degree from Smith College and a master's degree from George Washington University. Embarking upon a career in writing, Ms. Ogilvie likewise served as a teacher of English and poetry for more than 25 years, during which time she sought to spread her passion for the craft to burgeoning artists.
Ms. Ogilvie first published a book of selected poems, "You," and a memoir, "Knot: A Life" in 2008. She subsequently published a collection of her poems and paintings, "Easinesses Found," which received a special recognition from the Washington Independent Review of Poetry and Grace Cavieleri, the creator of the Poet and the Poem series.
Most recently, Ms. Ogilvie published "The Berth: American Themes in Poems and Images," a work that is structured as a conversation between a contemporary poet and a passenger on the Mayflower. The dialogue seeks to ruminate on what has become of the experiment of democracy between 1620 and the present. Likewise skilled as a painter, Ms. Ogilvie held a one-person show of her artwork at the Featherstone Center for the Arts, the Free Library of West Tisbury and the Chilmark Library.
In addition to her career creating art, Ms. Ogilvie worked for three years at the Dukes County House of Correction, where she published two volumes of poetry by the inmates. She also co-edited a collection of locally celebrated Judith Neeld's poetry in 2019. Presently, Ms. Ogilvie is a facilitator of the Cleaveland House Poetry Workshop, the oldest continuous poetry group in the United States. She also co-founded Poets on the Hill, a group of like-minded creatives. She was the founder and director of The Folger Poetry Readings at the Folger Shakespeare Library for nine years.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Ogilvie is presently writing a new book, through which she hopes to strike a different tone than her previous work. Additionally, Ms. Ogilvie plans to travel and looks forward to gardening in the spring.
