IOLA, TX, June 27, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kelly S. Mallett has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Ms. Mallett began her career as a technician in the Department of Veterinary Pathology at Texas A&M University in 1991. She then transitioned to the human side of histology by joining the Department of Pathology at Texas A&M University's College of Medicine as a technician in 1994. Ms. Mallett was then hired as a histologist by College Station Medical Center where she remained from 1999 until 2010. Her career came full circle in 2010 when she returned to Texas A&M University where she originally started her career as a histologist. She was hired as the medical laboratory supervisor for Veterinary Pathobiology and remained until April of 2018. Ms. Mallett's next role was a traveling histology technician through Fusion Medical Staffing and she completed assignments at the South Bend Medical Foundation in South Bend, Indiana. In 2019, Ms. Mallett was recruited by Texas A&M University's GI Laboratory to open their histology section. In this capacity, Ms. Mallett oversees daily operations, including the handling of specimens, overseeing staff, and lab employees. In 2021, she was sought after to help with histology research, and became a part-time histologist program aide for Nutrition Food Science at Texas A&M University Agrilife. She serves in these positions today.
Outside of her primary career endeavors, Ms. Mallett previously worked as a teacher for the Anderson-Shiro Consolidated Independent School District from 2007 to 2010. Presently, she is the advocacy chairman for and member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Society for Histotechnology (TSH). In April 2022, she was elected as the Speaker of the House for TSH. She will serve in the House of Delegates representing Texas at the 2022 National Society for Histotechnology (NSH) Convention. She is also a member of NSH, and has served on the Strategic Planning Task Force Committee. Likewise active civically, Ms. Mallett contributes to the Iola Food Pantry as the pantry coordinator. In 2014 she accepted an assignment with Winrock International's USAID Farmer to Farmer program where she volunteered in Nepal at the Himalayan College of Agricultural Sciences & Technology (HICAST) to help their histology lab and personnel with training and equipment. For her service, she was honored with a President's Volunteer Service Award in 2014.
Ms. Mallett earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Texas A&M University in 2005, and histotech certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Registry in 1993.
Ms. Mallett attributes her success to her faith in God as well as her family for their encouragement and support. Looking toward the future, she plans to continue expanding the scope of the histology section. Furthermore, Ms. Mallett hopes to carry on volunteering her time with the professional organizations she is involved with in relation to advocacy and education in the field of histology.
