William J. Shipley is particularly proud to have won multiple competitions with many of the bands he has directed.
TALLAHASSEE, FL, June 28, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- William J. Shipley has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Bolstered by over 30 years of teaching experience, Mr. Shipley has distinguished himself as a proactive figure in music education. Currently, he operates as the music teacher and band director at Fort Braden Middle School and as part of the Leon County School Board. He previously held similar positions at Graceville High School, Holmes County High School, North Florida Christian School, and Taylor County High School. In addition to his roles as an educator, Mr. Shipley has also participated as a member and musician with the Tallahassee Winds, Thursday Night Music Club, and the Tallahassee Swing Band.
Prior to venturing onto his vocational path, Mr. Shipley pursued his own education, earning a Master of Science in social science from Florida State University. Furthermore, to remain aware of developments in his field, he has maintained memberships with several industry-related organizations, including Phi Delta Kappa International, the Florida Music Education Association, the Florida Bandmasters Association, and the National Association for Music Education. For his dedication to his profession, he has been recognized as the Teacher of the Year in both 1992 and 2016. In addition to his extensive career in music education, Mr. Shipley also served honorably with the 151st Army National Guard Band as a trumpet, euphonium, guitar, and bass guitar player between 1995 and 2016.
In light of his many accomplishments, Mr. Shipley has attributed much of his success to his genuine desire to see his students learn and succeed. Over the course of his career, he is particularly proud to have won multiple competitions with many of the bands he has directed. Furthermore, he feels privileged to have assisted some of his students in beginning their own bands and achieving their professional goals. In retirement, Mr. Shipley plans on playing golf, gardening, and starting his own band.
