Mr. Holland's passion for photography was chiefly inspired by Edward Steichen's "The Family of Man" exhibit, which was on display at the New York Museum of Modern Art for several months in 1955. He also developed his skills in high school and provided photographs for the school yearbook and newspaper. After completing undergraduate coursework at Principia College, he attended Ohio University and obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1966.
Mr. Holland subsequently completed postgraduate coursework at the Missouri School of Journalism of the University of Missouri before he was recruited as a photography intern by the National Geographic Society. From 1967 to 1968, he traveled all over the world and documented uncharted terrain as a contract photographer for National Geographic Magazine. Throughout the following six years, Mr. Holland found further success as a documentary film editor and producer for the Christian Science Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
Mr. Holland began his real estate career in 1975, at which point he was appointed as a real estate developer at Brownstone Properties, Inc. He advanced to become president of the aforementioned organization before accepting a position as a real estate broker at Street & Company from 1978 until 1982. From 1982 until 2017, Mr. Holland thrived as the president of A Bit of Boston Real Estate, Inc., where he also managed and renovated many historic Boston brownstones.
Throughout his career, Mr. Holland has contributed photographs to myriad publications and released a number of his own photographic collections such as "The Amazon" in 1971, "Adventure Photographer" in 2009 and "Fisheyes" in 2011. He is also the author of multiple picture books such as "Boston's Notable Addresses: Historic Homes & the Residents That Made Them So" and "Diamonds Are Waiting For You: Crater Of Diamonds, Where Dreams Can And Do Come True." In an effort to draw more attention to one of his favorite artists, he released "W.O'K's Weird Wacky Wonderful World: The Art of William O'Keefe" in 2006.
In 1971, Mr. Holland's work as a documentary editor and producer earned him a Bronze Medal at the New York International Film & TV Festival. His films have additionally been broadcasted on numerous major television networks such as NBC, ABC, CBS and the Travel Channel. During the 1960s, Mr. Holland's photographs garnered multiple accolades from the National Press Photographers Association as well as the Eric Hoffer Award and the Next Generation Indie Book Award.
In order to stay up to date with the latest developments in the local art scene, Mr. Holland maintains active affiliations with a host of organizations such as the National Press Photographers Association, the American Society of Media Photographers and the Samuel Fletcher and Angeline Drury Society. He also helps preserve libraries, museums and art galleries all over the U.S. through his memberships with the Boston Athenaeum, the Griffin Museum of Photography and Friends of the Beverly Hills Public Library.
