Mr. Torikashvili, who goes by the name of Tidan, is an internationally known, award-winning tattoo artist who began studying the art form as a teenager coming of age in Russia. Today, he is employed by Vatican Studios, a highly regarded custom tattoo and piercing business in Lake Forest, California. Honored to be recruited by the organization in 2019 by industry leader and owner Franco Vescovi, Mr. Torikashvili works alongside a team of prominent artists from all over the world. Widely known for his realistic style, Mr. Torikashvili's extensive portfolio of work includes realistic portraits, miniatures and animals, which are frequently depicted in black and gray ink.
A self-educated tattoo artist who received no formal education in the arts, Mr. Torikashvili inherited his grandmother's and father's talent for drawing. After discovering tattoo artistry in the 1990s, he began sketching and developing his own unique style. In 1997, Mr. Torikashvili purchased his first tattoo machine and began his professional career in the industry. Developing a reputation as a very sought-after tattoo artist, he worked for several local tattoo shops, including FOX BOX Tattoo in Moscow. He also began attending international conventions, winning a multitude of prizes for his work, and ultimately opened his own business. In 2017, Mr. Torikashvili had the opportunity to work at NR Studios in London, a custom tattoo studio that has additional locations in Exeter and Cheltenham, England, before relocating to the west coast of the U.S.
Despite the negative attitude that society has toward tattoo art, Mr. Torikashvili remains steadfast in following his passion for this particular form of self-expression. Over the years, tattoo artistry has made advancements, but he believes that there are still opportunities for development in the industry. Mr. Torikashvili hopes that as he continually progresses in his career that the stigma will eventually fade so that he can become more appreciated and respected as an artist.
Mr. Torikashvili is a native of Rostov-on-Don, a port city in the southern federal district of Russia. He notably holds a bachelor's degree in information technology engineering.
To commemorate his accomplishments, Mr. Torikashvili has received a multitude of international awards, including a Best Black and White Tattoo at the Moscow Tattoo Festival, a Best Realistic Tattoo at the Milano Tatuami Tattoo Convention and a Best Individual Tattoo in Berlin. He also received several accolades at the Golden Expo in Los Angeles. Furthermore, Mr. Torikashvili has been highlighted with inclusion in several industry-related magazines such as TattooFest, Tattoo Society and Global Tattoo, as well as an online publication post in Buzzfeed.
