Following this period, he started a role as a coordinator for special programs and occupational safety and health at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2011 until becoming an industrial hygiene technician for Liberty Mutual Insurance in 2012.
Mr. Sauter continued his career with Liberty Mutual Insurance, advancing into leadership roles until becoming a senior industrial hygienist in 2020. Since 2021, he has been an industrial hygienist with Argonne National Laboratory. In this capacity, he examines silica and lead exposures across the laboratory while checking for indoor air quality and hazardous metals. He also tests the laboratory's filters and assists with the respiratory protection program. To remain aware of developments affecting his field, he is a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association.
