GREENWOOD, SC, July 08, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Edith Sanders Childs has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With decades of success in local policies, Mrs. Childs has been serving as a council member for the Greenwood County Council's District 1 in South Carolina since 1994. An instrumental leader in her community, she has worked hard to represent the interests of her constituents. Focusing primarily on school-related programs for the youth population, Mrs. Childs has also been involved in various other initiatives, particularly with the less fortunate members of the community.
Initially, Mrs. Childs ran for an at-large seat on Greenwood School District 50's Board of Trustees. She served on the school board from 1994-1998, before pursuing a seat on the Greenwood County Council in 1999. Prior to becoming active in the aforementioned county, she excelled for 32 years in health care and Self Memorial Hospital as a licensed practical nurse. Mrs. Childs simultaneously pursued and attained a degree in criminal justice and became a licensed private investigator.
Among her most notable achievements as a county council member, Mrs. Childs attended a 2007 rally in Greenwood during the presidential primary where she earned recognition from Barack Obama by initiating the chant "Fired up. Ready to Go." Her enthusiasm earned publicity from various news outlets, including CNN and the Los Angeles Times. Mr. Obama began using the slogan at his subsequent campaign rallies. Consequently, Mrs. Childs was honored to visit the White House on four occasions after he was elected President of the United States. She also attended his final State of the Union Address and was twice mentioned in his memoir "A Promised Land." Mrs. Childs was also selected by her party to be a part of the South Carolina delegation to the 2012 Democratic National Convention.
Mrs. Childs further serves as a member of her local chamber of commerce and as the president of her church missionary delegation at Jacob Chapel Baptist Church. She served in several other capacities in her community. She was a volunteer health care coordinator at the Little River Baptist Association as well vice chair the Board of Trustees. Moreover, she is a parliamentarian for the Little River Union Number 2. During an earlier stage of her career, Mrs. Childs was a member of her local district's school board and Parent Teacher Association as well as vice president of the local Parent Teacher Organization.
Mrs. Childs was born and raised in South Carolina and graduated from Brewer High School in 1967. She subsequently attended Piedmont Technical College, where she acquired an associate's degree in criminal justice at the age of 50. For her tireless work throughout the community, she was inducted into the Heritage Hall of Fame in 2021. Mrs. Childs was previously recognized with a Golden Globe in 2000. She also participated in a community watch Crimes Stopper Program and participates in Back-to-School Programs to provide school supplies for underprivileged youth.
