SUN CITY, AZ, July 08, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Maya D. Hennessey has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Hennessey is an independent consultant, trainer, teacher and author with almost five decades of experience in civic advocacy. She specializes in the treatment and recovery of pregnant and parenting women and their families.
Founded in the state of Illinois, Project SAFE spread across the nation. As the women's specialist for the Illinois Department of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (IDASA), Maya was appointed to First Lady Hillary Clinton's committees to improve outcomes for pregnant and parenting addicted women and their families. Maya managed the award-winning Project SAFE (Substance Abuse Free Environment) a federally funded program that achieved phenomenal outcomes and expanded from 4 pilot sites to 95 sites across Illinois and spread rapidly to other states. Project SAFE and Maya were featured in the Bill Moyers PBS-TV series titled "Close to Home" demonstrating the power of collaboration to restore to health, families formerly ravaged by poverty, addictions and trauma.
Maya is masterful at designing and delivering research-to-practice, interagency collaboration, experiential skill building trainings for professionals in the fields of addiction, trauma, child welfare, criminal justice (judges, drug/family court, parole/probation and corrections), domestic violence, sexual assault, child development, public health and family caregiving, to find common ground across systems to improve outcomes for families.
Adjacent to her professional career, which began in 1975, Ms. Hennessey nurtured her own educational journey as well. She attended Northeastern Illinois University, Board of Governors bachelor of arts degree in behavioral health, business and management, and theology in 1984. She subsequently sat as the first chair for the Women's Issues Committee of the Illinois Alcoholism and Drug Dependence Association (IADDA; currently known as the Illinois Association for Behavioral Health). For her many dedicated years as a civic-minded citizen, Ms. Hennessey has received several awards and commendations, including the Keith Keisey Award in 1991 and the Award for Progressive Advancement of Women's Issues from the Illinois Women's Advisory Council in 2010. She was also named among Marquis Who's Who Top Professional Women.
Ms. Hennessey is also known for her scholarly output, having authored "If Only I'd Had This Caregiving Book," of self-discovery exercises to assist in developing a support network to ease the distress of family caregiving, for themselves and others in their communities. She has also written articles for Women's Self Defense Magazine, Heartland Journal and Bar Leader. Having always been fascinated with group dynamics, Ms. Hennessey attributes much of her success to the many individuals she has had the pleasure of working with throughout her career. She believes no single success of hers would have been achievable were it not for their encouragement and involvement.
She is currently working on her legacy series for her website: www.mayahennessey.com.
