An expert in investment planning, retirement planning, and wealth management planning, Dr. Klein has been an accomplished professor and financial adviser for more than 40 years. Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, David earned his B.A. degree from Brooklyn College, his M.A. degree from Florida State University (FSU), and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (U of IL). At all three universities David majored in economics and French language and literature and was awarded Graduate Teaching Fellowships at both FSU and the U of IL. The year after he completed his M.A. degree, he was awarded a French Teaching Fellowship from the French government. David spent a full year in Paris teaching English to French high school students at a local lycee (high school) while also studying at the Sorbonne (University of Paris) from which received a French diploma.
Dr. Klein began his professional teaching career after receiving his Ph.D. degree from the University of Illinois. He was a professor at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois for five years and a professor at Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana for four years before deciding to make the transition to the financial world of investing as a financial advisor. He began his financial career with Paine Webber and has now been with RBC Wealth Management for more than 30 years. David became well known in the industry after appearing for many years on several local Chicago TV and radio shows. He was a regular guest speaker on "Ask an Expert," and "Buy, Sell, or Hold," and hosted his own radio show, "Inside the Stock Market." Very active in the local community, David has communicated his thoughts and ideas to the investment and business community, and has been interviewed by, and written articles for the local press.
For a period of 25 years, David was a public official in the villages of Long Grove and Buffalo Grove, Illinois. He was elected to the local school board for 8 years, and served the following 17 years as trustee and President of the Board of Trustees of the local Fire Protection District. As a former professor, Dr. Klein served on many committees related to his public positions. David now serves on the Advisory Faculty of IPPAC, the Illinois Public Pension Advisory Committee that serves the needs of police and fire pension board members and trustees of police and fire districts. He has been a guest speaker at many yearly conventions for fire and police. Recently, IPPAC awarded Dr. Klein a memorable plaque "for his contributions to IPPAC and continuing education for pension fund trustees." For many years, David has returned to the University of Illinois with other leaders in the business community to participate in a symposium on the opportunities for students in the business and financial world.
