Drawing on over three decades of expertise, Dr. Martin-Lindsey specializes in social and science education, and school counseling. Before embarking on her professional journey, she pursued an education at Texas A&M University, located in College Station, Texas, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in microbiology in 1985 and a Master of Arts in counseling from Prairie View A&M University in 1999. She continued her academic efforts at the University of Houston Main Campus, earning a Doctor of Education in professional leadership, emphasizing social education in 2021. Dr. Martin-Lindsey is a Texas-certified secondary science educator, school counselor, and administrator.
As a commitment to her field, Dr. Martin-Lindsey has been active with several industry-related organizations, including the National Alliance of Mental Illness, the Houston Association of School Administrators, and the Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International.
Dr. Martin-Lindsey began her career as a research assistant and a laboratory manager at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, from 1985 to 1992. Between 1992 and 1996, she garnered expertise as an educator and a science instructor at Worthing Senior High School in the Houston Independent School District before advancing to the post of magnet coordinator of their mathematics, science, and technology magnet program from 1996 until 2002. She continued her vocation in a similar capacity, working as a magnet and outdoor education specialist at the Central Magnet Office for the Houston Independent School District from 2002 to 2007 and subsequently as a student records manager for the district's Federal and State Compliance department between 2007 and 2015.
Following this period, Dr. Martin-Lindsey contributed as a Connections Education virtual high school principal serving more than 3,000 students at the Texas Connections Academy @ Houston (TCAH) from 2015 to 2021. Since 2021, she has found much success as the academy's virtual school leader. In this capacity, she functions as a successful pre-COVID virtual educator whose doctorate, professional leadership, and social education acumen equips her with the expertise to support more than 9,000 Texas students in grades three through 12 and to oversee their instructional efficacy and sustainable systems that provide a positive impact on various learning communities.
Well regarded for her contributions to the field, Dr. Martin-Lindsey has received multiple awards, including fellowships from the American Society for Cell Biology and the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. A University of Houston doctoral graduate earning a Professional Leadership doctorate with a Social Education Cognate, she studied abroad during her doctoral studies, writing a published chapter in a book highlighting global education. Dr. Martin-Lindsey co-authored research documents published in scientific journals while employed by Baylor College of Medicine in the Biochemistry Department. In addition, she has reviewed discretionary grant applications and acted as a National Advisory Group Member-Sustaining Successful K-8 Magnet Schools for the United States Department of Education.
Among Dr. Martin-Lindsey's professional accomplishments, she is most proud of the TCAH salutatorian who created a video expressing gratitude for the safe nurturing space that Dr. Martin-Lindsey and other members of her staff designed for them after they experienced a variety of challenges. Dr. Martin-Lindsey attributes much of her success to the phenomenal team of professionals, parents, and students she worked with throughout her career. Looking toward the future, she aspires to expand the scope of her occupation as an action researcher by attaining her license as a practicing counselor while continuing her work on a collegiate level. Likewise, she hopes to write and publish several books.
