WHEAT RIDGE, CO, July 13, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Edward M. Fleegler, MD, FACP, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Fleegler is a retired Board-certified Internist and Geriatrician who provided care in "the spirit of service" before moving to a second administrative physician medical career for several healthcare businesses. After earning a Bachelor of Science in 1973, he went on to pursue a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1977. He completed his internal medicine training at The Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia in the specialty of Internal Medicine. Pennsylvania Hospital is a community-based teaching program aligned with The University of Pennsylvania Healthcare System. At the end of his training program he was recruited by a health care system in Chester, Pennsylvania, Crozer Chester Medical Center, and began a remarkable clinical career spanning 30 years. A clinical career that included becoming a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Early on, he taught medical students and residents providing medical care to the underserved, working in one of the lowest-income cities in the nation and teaching at the social security building in Chester, PA. Later, he transitioned to a wonderful primary-care medical career finishing with Clinical Care Associates, of the University of Pennsylvania on the Mainline of Philadelphia. He had become the first medical director of Marriott's The Quadrangle, in Haverford, PA. during this time and worked with their senior living division. Dr. Fleegler counts being named The Quadrangle's first Chief Medical Director as a highlight of his professional career. He worked with The Quadrangle community of over 500 residents, many who were graduates of Haverford, Swarthmore and Bryn Mawr colleges, and wanted to spend their final days together living in Community. Dr. Fleegler founded and developed the Health Issues Committee at The Quadrangle, with its first chairperson being Dr. Jonathan Rhoads of the University of Pennsylvania, a remarkable teacher and surgeon who developed Total Parenteral Nutrition with Dr. Stanley Dudrick at The University of Pennsylvania. The community members of The Quadrangle, local Marriott management and the medical professionals gathered monthly and solved psychosocial and medical challenges together. There was also an ombudsman program that is today nationally known as Healthcare Navigators.
Dr. Fleegler also enjoyed a second phase of his career by transitioning to physician administration, where he gained valuable insights into the middle and back offices for the business of medicine. He continued to provide administrative medical management "in the spirit of service" with efforts to bring value-based care and team-based care for our country. He worked with multiple national organizations including Aetna in Denver from 2000-2002, then McKesson Health Solutions in Broomfield, CO from 2002-2003 and Independence Blue Cross in Philadelphia from 2003 to 2008, as well as Active Health Management in Greenwood Village from 2008-2009.
Having held diverse positions across a wide variety of institutions, Dr. Fleegler became a steady presence in multiple states. He finished his medical professional administrative career with United Healthcare Community and State (Medicaid) during Medicaid expansion for the PPACA where he started in 2012 and retired in 2015.
Dr. Fleegler had been the Senior Director of Clinical Pathways from 2009 until 2012 for RevolutionCare Inc. that "pivoted" to CareKinesis. Carekinesis is presently located in New Jersey as Tabula Rasa Healthcare. Providing delivery of medications in the ambulatory setting and medication therapy management support to our most vulnerable elders who are members of PACE/LIFE Communities.
With numerous certifications in hand, Dr. Fleegler was well positioned to excel in his profession and the healthcare industry. He holds credentials from the National Board of Medical Examiners as well as being a Fellow of American College of Physicians. He has also maintained important peer networks as a fellow of the American College of Physicians and having been senior scholar in the Department of Health Policy of Jefferson Medical College. He served on the Advisory Committee for curriculum development for the first College of Population Health located at Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Fleegler attributes his success to both a solid education and his unceasing willingness to learn, as well as his open-minded attitude regarding technology as his profession transitioned into the digital era.
Finally, in his medical professional career, Dr. Fleegler mentored in an advisory and participatory role for Canna Research Group. AthletePEACE is now recognized as an important contribution to the evolving medical science of cannabis use for Population Health. Mentoring for the final stage of his remarkable medical career within the digital era that involves a new paradigm for medical publications and promoted by a collaborative team effort. An effort now continued with the Canna Research Foundation that is being led by a much younger, remarkable cannabis epidemiologist, Dr. Joanna Zeiger, with her PhD from Johns Hopkins and provides a significant contribution to the body of our medical literature.
