Dr. Sarah L. Marshall Recognized for Excellence in Health Care and Community Outreach

With over 40 years in health care, Dr. Marshall continues to demonstrate dedication and passion in her practice.



    GARDEN CITY, NY, July 14, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sarah L. Marshall has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After obtaining a Baccalaureate of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN), from Medgar Evers CUNY, a Master of Science in Nursing administration and informatics from Molloy University, two advanced certificates, one in administration and informatics and the other in education from Rutgers University, she pursued her education further, earning a terminal degree as a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in leadership. In conjunction with her degrees, Dr. Marshall also has several certifications that speak to her expertise and dedication to the nursing profession and healthcare. As a certified nurse, she holds current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of New York. She is certified as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Basic Life Support, International Childbirth Educator and Breastfeeding Counselor, among others.

Dr. Marshall's current position as a patient and community educator, Independent Living Donor Advocate (ILDA), and Clinical Assistant Professor at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University combines her passion for nursing and her dedication to health promotions, early detection, and disease preventions. She is an experienced leader with expertise in developing, coordinating, and implementing community outreach projects and programs for faith-based organizations, senior centers, and schools. She serves as mentor and preceptor for medical, nursing, and public health students. In the future, Dr. Marshall plans to further explore her role as an independent living donor advocate, provide awareness and information for potential donors to ensure informed decisions, protect their confidentiality as well as demystify organ donation to improve available donors for the vulnerable populations.

Long term dedication to civic advocacy and the public wellbeing, Dr. Marshall extends her services beyond the university into the surrounding communities and beyond. As affiliation with professional and civic organizations she serves on the board of director for the American Nurses Association-New York, Nurses Association for the Counties Long Island (NACLI), and Kiwanis. She is a member of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative Core Committee, a representative for the Institute of Continued Learning (ICL), Academic schools' affiliations, Immunizations taskforce and volunteer for several other medical-based entities.

Through outreach programs, Dr. Marshall was instrumental in establishing the healthy women's Partnership program in collaboration with the American Cancer Society and New York State that offers free health care services such as clinical breast examination, Pap smear, and Mammogram for those without insurance coverage or under insured who meet the criteria. She also established and served as coordinator of a mentor program for students in SUNY Downstate generic nursing program that assist with financial or academic needs in collaboration with mentors from Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority, university Hospital and New York City College of Technology on the local, regional level which expanded into a national model program. She was the founding president of Psi Tau Chapter, Sigma International Nursing Honor Society at SUNY Downstate and served as Alpha Omega Chapter president at Adelphi University in Garden City.

Though her professional journey has been filled with numerous memorable moments, Dr. Marshall is especially proud of the community outreach programs she has established and her part in Kiwanis International World Health Service Project where she served as New York State district Co-Coordinator fundraising efforts of $75.000 to help eliminate iodine deficiency disorders globally in collaboration with UNICEF.
