Dedicated to his country, COL Connor served as an Army Infantry Officer for more than 30 years. Born to a military family, Bill drew inspiration from the example of his father, a Vietnam War veteran. Bill was graduated from The Citadel in 1990 and began his service in 1990. Advancing through the ranks, including three deployments to the Middle East, COL Connor was promoted to the role of a light infantry company commander in Hawaii and a ranger company commander for the Ranger Training Brigade at Ft. Benning in the 1990s.
As a Captain, COL Connor was selected from dozens of officers as the aide de camp to the Commanding General of Fort Benning, Georgia. He was promoted to a small group instructor to the infantry captains' career course in 2000. He continued his career after the attacks of 9-11 rising to become the senior U.S. military adviser to Afghan National Security Forces Helmand Province in Afghanistan in 2007/2008. He was decorated with the Combat Infantryman's Badge and Bronze Star among other decorations and awards.
COL Connor was inspired to join the legal field after holding "court" as a company commander, spurring him to switch to the reserve component and attend law school while remaining an Infantry Officer. Bill earned a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law and was admitted to the Federal Bar and South Carolina Bar in 2006. Bill has worked in a prosecutor's office, practiced insurance defense, and has owned his own firm with a partner and then on his own for the past twelve years. After only six years of practice, Bill received a peer evaluation rating of "AV Preeminent" from Martindale-Hubbell, the top rating for ethics and competency among attorneys in America.
In 2015, Bill was promoted to Colonel and became Senior Officer from US Army North to SC, a role he held until his retirement after more than 30 years of service. During the course of his career, Bill received numerous awards. He was the 1997 MacArthur Leadership Award Nominee for the U.S. Army Pacific. His awards included the Asia Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Multinational Forces and Observers (Sinai, Egypt) Medal, The NATO Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Airborne Wings, Air Assault Badge, Expert Infantryman's Badge, and the Ranger Tab.
While practicing law and fulfilling duties with US Army North, COL Connor earned a Master of Strategic Studies from the US Army War College, becoming a distinguished graduate in 2018. The same year, he founded the Bill Connor Law Firm LLC, where he continues today. In this capacity, he practices, probate, civil litigation, and business law.
COL Connor has written numerous articles for newspapers, professional publications, military infantry and army magazines, including a report on Operation Bagration during the Second World War. A former candidate for the office of lieutenant governor of South Carolina, he was elected as the sixth chairman of his local congressional district, and may run for a public office again in the future.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Connor plans to continue maintaining his law practice, become more involved in missionary work, and spend more time with his loving family He is a College Board Member of The Citadel, where his son also studies on an army scholarship.
