SAN ANTONIO, TX, July 15, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- George A. Walton Jr. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. An expert in mediation, Mr. Walton has been a successful business owner and leader for more than 60 years. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force for thirty plus years, entering in 1959 and retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant (commonly referred to as one percenters) in 1989. He received several medals for outstanding service.
While on active duty, Mr. Walton received a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Education and Human Resources from Southern Illinois University in 1986. Upon retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1989, he began his sole proprietorship business as a substance abuse counselor and trainer. He later dropped the substance abuse and added mediation. Mr. Walton began a career with the Texas General's Office in the Child Support Division as Director of Human Resources Development (HRD). He later moved to the litigation division as a trouble shooter for the director of that division. In 2001 he became the Human Resources Analyst and Recruiter for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office. In 2006 Mr. Walton accepted the position of Chairman for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office Commission. He remained in the role until 2009.
Mr. Walton has a desire to volunteer. He has worked with SAMM Ministries, an organization dedicated to helping the homeless. He also volunteered at Haven for Hope, another agency devoted to working with the homeless. Mr. Walton later volunteered to work with the Bexar Senior Advisor Committee (BSAC) a division of AACOG (Alamo Area Council of Governments). He worked on that committee as treasurer, deputy chair, and as chair.
In 1997 Mr. Walton became a volunteer at the Bexar County Dispute Resolution Center (BCDRC) and within three years became the lead trainer along with one of his co-volunteers. A position he yet holds. Mr. Walton has extensive experience as a mediator, beginning in 1972 with the U.S. Air Force. He received his formal training in 1993 with the Texas Attorney General's Office.
In 2007 Mr. Walton joined the staff at Anger Management Network (established in 1992) and worked on the advisory board. The year before he had trained the anger management staff in mediation. He became a qualified teacher of anger management courses that are taught in the prison system, the local communities in Texas and countries outside the U.S. Later Mr. Walton and others believed it necessary to expand the program beyond anger classes. First there was a name change, Life Skills for Living (LSL). Then new courses were developed on stress management and basic finances. Mr. Walton developed courses on conflict resolution and enhancing relationships.
Mr. Walton became chairman of the board in 2021 and during his leadership, Life Skills for Living has moved into the disabled community to support families and employees who work with those who have disabilities. LSL continues to grow and is in constant needs of funds to help the community at large.
