Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing upon over three decades of expertise, Mr. Swift specializes in individual and family behavioral health services. Prior to embarking on his professional journey, he graduated from AM&N, which became the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB), where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in music education in 1962. Following this accomplishment, he served with the U.S. Army as a member of the Eighth Division Army Band. Mr. Swift later continued his academic efforts at Hunter College of the City University of New York, earning a Master of Social Work in 1976.

Long dedicated to the field of social work, Mr. Swift secured his first role at Mount Loretto, an institution for wayward and neglected children, in Staten Island, NY. Likewise, he contributed to the field as a social worker at the South Beach Psychiatric Hospital, where he cultivated his desire to avail himself to others. In 1971, Mr. Swift established the Staten Island Music Workshop, a community project intended to help turn children on to music, thereby keeping them away from drugs. In his capacity as the musical director of the program, he trained students and conducted practice with a group of children from the ages of 8 to 16, and together the group performed at a number of prestigious venues, such as the legendary Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Newport Jazz Festival, New York and for a French documentary, "Music in the Streets," which appeared on French television. Mr. Swift also solicited the services of professional musicians to deliver lectures and offer training in various instruments.

After relocating to Dayton, Ohio, Mr. Swift served as an abuse program manager with the Montgomery County Children Services Board, through which he supervised seven unit supervisors and delivered various speaking engagements. In this capacity, he rose to become the assistant director of administrative services and area business administration. Likewise, Mr. Swift contributed extensively to his local church by spearheading a program that sought to enhance independence and promote emotional well-being among senior citizens. The seniors with whom he worked came to call themselves the Golden Age People.

Returning to Arkansas, Mr. Swift found success as a part-time instructor at his alma mater, UAPB, for three years. During this time, he taught courses in social work and gerontology. Additionally, Mr. Swift worked on a full-time basis as a substance abuse counselor with the U.S. Army Medical Center at the Pine Bluff Arsenal.

Since 1988, Mr. Swift has worked in a part-time capacity as the chief executive officer and consultant at Swift Enterprises, a part-time consultancy through which he delivers speaking engagements and provides services in social program development, sports psychology, photography, workshop presentation and training. He also distinguished himself as the founder and chief executive officer of the Urban Family Center PLC in Pine Bluff, which served as a clinical practice specializing in behavioral health services for families, individuals, couples and seniors. In this capacity, Mr. Swift was responsible for supervising the clinical staff, as well as providing contracting services to psychiatrists and foster care programs until his retirement in 2005. Following his retirement, Mr. Swift established Young at Heart, another senior citizen's program for the Wesley Chapel AME Church in Houston, Texas, which was designed to serve as a model for other churches.

As a devoted member of the behavioral health field, Mr. Swift is certified as a Rehabilitation Counselor and Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York, Arkansas and Texas. He has been active with several membership organizations, including the National Academy of Psychotherapy and the Child Welfare League of America. Likewise, he has been contracted as a trainer for the Arkansas' Child Welfare supervisors, and he volunteered for the Arkansas Youth Suicide Commission by developing a school awareness program. Well regarded for his inexhaustible commitment to the field of social work, Mr. Swift has delivered various presentations before the Dayton Board of Education, Lennox Industries, the Child Welfare League of America Conference and the Arkansas Group Psychotherapy Society, among others.

Looking back on his contributions to the field, Mr. Swift is proud to have received multiple awards, including a Behind the Scenes Award, a Distinguished Service Regional Award and a Community Service Award from the UAPB/AM&N National Alumni Association. He also received a Plaque of Recognition from the Wayman AME Church in Dayton and an Achievement Award from the AM&N Music Department Band in honor of his exemplary service to the community. Additional accolades to Mr. Swift's credit include his induction into the UAPB/AM&N National Alumni Association Hall of Fame and several Certificates of Appreciation from a variety of relevant organizations, such as the Arkansas State Youth Suicide Prevention Commission, the Jefferson County Department of Human Services and the Pine Bluff chapter of The Links, Inc.

In accounting for his success, Mr. Swift credits his childhood community, whose close-knit members contributed to his accomplishments. Throughout the course of his career, he has worked diligently to live by his motto, "Life is what it is, but how you deal with it is what's important." Looking toward the future, Mr. Swift aspires to write a book and spend more time with his great-grandchildren.
