A native of Pittsburgh and a U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Porter is currently a geologist with AGX Inc., a position he has held since 1989. Citing a lifelong passion for the sciences, he originally desired to become an astronaut, so he joined the Navy as an aviation reserve officer candidate with hopes of transitioning into the space program. Mr. Porter flew large, multiengine aircraft but did not meet the physical requirements to fly an advanced jet trainer.
Having accrued over 30 years in a professional career as a geologist, Mr. Porter has garnered many accomplishments. He initiated the NVLAP laboratory, which conducts polarized light microscopy. He also completed coursework for a master's degree at Oklahoma State University, and he studied at Edinboro University. Furthermore, Mr. Porter holds important industry credentials, including as an EPA certified instructor and a licensed building inspector through the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.
Mr. Porter credits his parents' lessons in diligence and persistence as the foundation for his motivation and his business success.
