She was inducted into the Idaho Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2018.

An expert in barrel racing, Ms. VanDorn-Thacker has distinguished herself as a leader in the Idaho rodeo circuit for the majority of her life. To prepare for her professional journey, she completed college coursework at Boise State University and joined the professional ranks for rodeo competitions in 1964. Following this accomplishment, she began her career as a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association timer for the Beutler Brothers and for Christensen Brothers Rodeo.
Following this period, Ms. VanDorn-Thacker served as the director for the Girl's Rodeo Association tri-state chapter, where she would serve as the spokeswoman for the WPRA for 17 years. In 2019, she became the director of the Idaho Rodeo Hall of Fame and has been the president of the organization since 2020.
Having participated in local rodeos since her youth, Ms. VanDorn-Thacker won her first competition in 1958 at the Caldwell Idaho Junior Rodeo. After this distinction, she went on to win the barrel racing competition in the Idaho Girl's Rodeo Association in 1960, and continued competing throughout high school. She competed in numerous rodeos nationally and was in the top 15 in the Wilderness Circuit from 1978 to 1986. She was also inducted into the Idaho Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2018.
Following her retirement from competing, Ms. VanDorn-Thacker served on the board and as the vice president of the Idaho Barrel Futurity. In recognition for her work in this capacity, she was honored with the Chris Linden Humanitarian Award. Additionally, she is the co-founder of the Gem State Rodeo Association, a youth rodeo organization in Southwestern Idaho. She is also a gold card member with the Women's Professional Rodeo Association and a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.
